The first thing I did this morning, before I started my research, was I tried to envision what the media storyline would be if each of the four remaining teams make it to the Super Bowl. Here is what I came up with:

Denver: Jake Plummer overcomes past playoff failures. Boring!

Pittsburgh: Steelers playing for Bettis in what should be his final season. Repeated flashbacks to his improbable fumble against Indy. Talk about how he was almost the goat.

Carolina: Panthers back in the Super Bowl. Comeback Player of the Year Steve Smith. Boring!

Seattle: Holmgren back in the Super Bowl. Hasselbeck finally matured into a Super Bowl quarterback, comparisons to Holmgren's other Super Bowl quarterback Favre. MVP Alexander.

Bettis is the most appealing storyline by far. A lot of people would root for one of the best running backs in the history of the NFL to go out on top. Then, on the other sideline, you could have the guy who is considered by many to be the best back in the game today (Alexander). Tagliabue would love nothing more than to have the MVP of his league in the Super Bowl. If nothing else, something to think about!

nice, I like the storylines and they sound pretty close to what we'll see, also, gonna through something else in for you

the story under Bettis is the real story... Big Ben, much like Brady, comes in after Maddoxs' injury, goes something like 13-1 in his first year, 2nd year, not given much of a chance because Deuce is hurt, Bettis is hurt, suddenly oops....we got another story Willie Parker emerges, goes off on a few games, makes his place in the O, Bettis gets healthy, Ben gets hurt, lose to the Colts after Ben's first game back, hasn't lost since and beat what everyone thought would be the undisputed champs

PLAYOFFS: (4-0)

Just laid a big wager on the Seattle/Carolina game! My heart said to play Carolina, but my head said to play Seattle. My head prevailed in the end. Carolina just has too much to overcome in this game. The Panthers will be playing their fourth straight on the road. This time, they make the same cross-country trip Washington made last Saturday. The Skins had won 6 straight before making the trip, and we all saw what happened to them. The Panthers are banged up after Sunday's physical contest with the Bears. Shaun Alexander left Saturday's game with a concussion, but he will play on Sunday, and he will be fresh since he basically sat out another game. From what I've been seeing and reading so far this week, the public money is on Carolina. The public has been right a lot this year, but not this time. Just in case this is one of those rare playoff win but no cover situations, I will play it safe on the moneyline.

SEAHAWKS -180

Back tomorrow with my play on the other game.

Good luck!

Carolina Panthers' Mike Minter:

"Seattle is picked to win this thing, OK? They're the No. 1 seed, they're playing at home, they got their first playoff win, so why not roll with them? We had a hard-fought game and we got it done, but I believe Seattle is probably the most complete football team we're going to play."

To me, it sounds like Minter is trying to put added pressure on the Hawks. Show some confidence in your squad Mike! This is one of the oldest tricks in the book, and it simply won't work against this Seattle team.

I could sit here and come up with a lot of reasons to play Pittsburgh, but there's only one thing you need to know...

It's the year of the "Bus!"

The Steelers won't be denied in Jerome's final season. The team wants to make sure one of the greatest running backs the league has ever seen goes out on top. Jerome was almost the goat last Sunday, and that will make it even more special for him when Pittsburgh wins it all. I believe in teams of destiny. It's Pittsburgh's year, and there is nothing Denver can do about it!

STEELERS +3.5

Good luck!

I think that I'll be pitching a tent in your camp this weekend LL...I agree on both. Although earlier in the week I was leaning towards the Broncs....I think that you and others have changed my mind. It may very well be the year of the Steelers. It's hard to go against them this week after that performance I saw last weekend against Indy. That defense was all over Manning.......the only thing that bothers me is this.....3 straight road games. Are they up to the task?

I don't understand playing the moneyline on a favorite. I am not questioning your knowledge, as you are obviously up very big for the playoffs, but why the moneyline? If you think Seattle will get it done why not just lay the points? If you think it is going to be a field goal game then why not take Carolina instead??? I just don't get it. You are laying a lot of extra cash for the small possibility the spread comes into play.

Killian, Pittsburgh will be up to the task. Don't let three straight road games deter you from playing the Steelers. It's not like the Steelers overexerted themselves in either game. Both wins (Cincy, Indy) were rather easy. Beating the Patriots last Saturday, was the worst thing that could happen to Denver. The Broncos' emotions were mile high for the defending champs. There is no way they can match that intensity this weekend. Denver will have a natural letdown, and Pittsburgh will take full advantage of it.

Dizzayton and Puckfan, I am putting close to $2,000 on the Seahawks because I know they will win this game. I don't know how much they're going to win by, my guess is double digits, but I do know they will win. When I have this much money on the line, I don't take any chances. Why would I play the Panthers plus the points if I believe they have no shot of winning this game? Should I hope that Seattle wins but Carolina covers? No thanks! I will stick to what I'm certain about.

Good luck!

Great job last week!!!!

My Skins let me down. Poor playcalling and no pass rush lead to their demise in my opinion.

My questions.

Does anyone know who the refs are rooting for?

Did the ref in the replay booth of the Colts game get his prescription glasses renewed for this week?

Are the same refs working the Denver/Pitt game that worked the Denver/New England game?

When is interference interference? Do the refs even know?

These are the questions that I need answered before I lay down my hard earned green.

Good luck on your picks this week!

Puckfan, if Seattle wins by 3, which definitely could happen, I would push if I play the spread. I would be right about Seattle winning the game, and I wouldn't make any money at all. When I lay this much money on a game, I take the push out of the equation. I'm getting paid on what I believe is a no-brainer!

Damn, I knew Pittsburgh would win this game, but I didn't think it would be this easy.
