Seriously horse racing is not advancing. There were maybe 2 or 3 contenders in a million dollar race and the others were allowance horses and optional claimers.

It was a million dollar race where are the million dollar horses?

Not like racing back in the late 70's and 80's where there was competition.

Ny has brought in slot machines to boost racing. Sad.

I think there were a couple factors:

1) some owners didn't put their horse in the race because everyone wanted to see a triple crown winner for the good of the industry

2) the state of racing in NY and at Belmont is in such turmoil that some stables won't race there and don't want anything to do with that situation

I'm not sure the Triple Crown series could have taken any bigger hits than to have a potential TC winner scratch, have that horse trained by a cheater and have another horse go down today. Plus payouts in the Preakness were small so there was no longshot interest by the sometimes fan.

Even HBO couldn't help as you would think a series focused on the game and the life would draw some interest and we know what happened to that.

In the end, horse racing probably is where it deserves to be and I'm not sure there is any solution to turn around the nosedive.
