auto auctions. In the States, u can have somebody with a car dealer's license look/buy for you. You do have to have the cash money, no financing at auctions. The dealer will charge a commission which is usually reasonable and maybe nothing if you know somebody in that business. You also have to be rather patient as the car you want might not surface for several months. I'm sure this process is similar in Canada.

Bases,I just bought a car for my daughter l'box at the GSA auction. They are all over the country. On Wed I watched 300 US Goverment cars auctioned.
I bought a 2000 Dodge Stratus with 20,000 miles on it for $ 5,200.It's in mint condition.
The goverment sells thousands of cars each week.I think there is one up in the Buffalo area every so often.
I'll give you the GSA site.
Most Dodge Stratus's sold from 3,500 to 7500.I saw about 10 Dodge Durango's go for 10,000-13,000.They had about 50,000 miles on them but my brother-in-law paid over $30,000 for a new one 2yrs ago.

You can't beat the price of GSA cars.Problem is dealers also can bid on them. Most of the Dodge Stratus's were owned by army, navy, air force recruiters. They have to be maintained with iol changes, etc. Carfax.com can give you a history of the car.The car I bought was maintained in NYC.Got 4 oil changes,no accidents, etc

Look on the site and see how close they are to you.

Good luck...

Bases, stay away from the 320 line if you're going to purchase a BMW.

There was a recent TSB on the 320's driveshafts.

What is your price range?
If your looking into spending about 40-50K canadian, I would go with the new Lincoln Continental.

You have to give me more info as to what type of vehicle and price range you're looking at.

If you're looking at a sedan, the honda civic's are worth a look at.

another possibilty if you are not in a hurry.
I have never owned new car in my life and never will. Basically because I am a tight ass but another big factor is the miles I drive make a car worthless in a couple years. So when it is time for new vehicle I tell my friend about 6 months in advance what I want and he goes to auction of wrecked vehicles and finds what I am looking for and rebuilds it. The downside here in U.S. is you have salvage title now and they are hard to sell afterwards but in my case when I am finished with car they have so many miles they are worthless anyway.
