some would say that`s a ridiculous wager...but,i like it...

i see a very improved ballclub....one that could easily have won the afc last year.....

the pats are loaded....adding randy moss, kelley washington, donte stallworth at receiver......not to mention wes welker at receiver/kick returner....

not to mention tory james to help at corner....and their biggest signing, adalius thomas...who will make that defense sooo much better....

brady`s never had this kind of arsenal..never really had this caliber receiver....

randy moss...even an old moss and welker, who was a playmeker in a poor miami offense....

this team is shooting for the super bowl....this year.....period...

gw...

you know i wish you the best, but this pick is too trendy for me...similiar to what carolina was a few years back.also they will have a major problem if samuel sits out for a few games.

good to see you in the picks section...good luck this year.

as much as I would love to see it..I am not convinced that this defense is that good. Thier inside linebackers are slow and thier corners are mediocre without Asante. I cannot argue with the obvious. They are loaded at wideout but its hard to win consistently solely relying on offense. Further, They need another running back. They have some decent backs but none of them are an every down tough back. and this is absolutely speculation but what happens if by cahnce Brady is out for a few ? they have no one to back him up...and dont tell me Cassel is ready..no way no how...There are more holes on this team than people think.

The Patriots are certainly loaded on offense and Thomas should help that D, but AR182 is right that the absence of Samuel will hurt a defense that already has it's problems. The defense is very aged and they had trouble getting off the field late last season. This was never more evident than the AFC Championship meltdown against Indianapolis where they gave up 32 points and five scoring drives of 60+ yards in the second half. They gave up an average of 21 pp/g over their last 8 games (5 reg season, 3 playoffs) and in two games against Indy surrendered 38 and 21 points respectively.

Good luck with your wager, though.

In the AFC Championship game the D was tired in the 2nd half, part of that I think was a good number of players had the Flu or were recovering from it. still should not have given up that Big lead...

cooz3 - Yeah if Brady goes down they are Phucked, but you could say that about almost every team if the starting QB went down...

Blitz:

I hear ya. thats why I said it was absolute speculation. You cant base a bet on the what if on an injury. I completely agree. I am just saying that some teams have some decent and capable backups and can play through and be competetive. I dont think the Pats have addressed the backup slot behind Brady and im not sure they could swim without him for long. But i understand and agree with your point.

first off,I'd like to thank you all for being here to share this moment with me....

yeah,it`s a sexy pick,no doubt....

still, tory james can play....and believe me...adalius thomas could be the most versatile defender in the league...the guy can rush the passer off the corner...he can cover t.e.`s and even backs out of the backfield....he`s just amazing...THE most underrated defender in football,imo.....he was the backbone of the raven defense,imo...not ray lewis....and an amzing clubhouse guy...

imo....this offense.....with brady....will eclipse the colt offense as the preeminent offense in football...

and i just love wes welker...i think this kid will be special with brady....

these receivers...they`re very intimidating...you have to wonder just how much better that running game will be wiith all those weapons at wideout.....and kyle brady came over....a decent blocking tight end...

man...that was quite a few "imo`s"....i feel like a pamphlet hander-outer at the democratic convention...

cooz, always respect the opinion of a fan that will dissect weakness of his team. everytime my beloved were in the playoffs 2000-2002 i was always aware of our weakness in different areas.

Whats up Elvis.

I just try and be honest and objective as much as possible. As much as I love the Pats i have feeling that they are going to be real shaky on defense especially if Asante is out for an extended period of time. AS I previously stated thier linebacking Corp. is getting older and slower . i like the Thomas siging but he wont be able to answer all their problems. They will need one of thier younger guys to step up this year. They will score but i think they will get scored on as well.

best of luck this year and good luck on your bet GardenWeasel

As someone who watches the Pats very closely, I can say the posts by cooz3 and wanyewonder are exactly correct. Really nothing more I can add. Although, I do think the Samuel situation will eventually ends up in a trade, just like Branch. They should just get it over with ASAP, and find a team that is willing to pay him and get a decent backup/potential starter and a day one pick.
