I never showed disrespect to any of the other great rivalries. I am also sure that they can make a strong case on their rivalry being the greatest. What is unique about USC and ND is it is an intersectional rivalry and it has decided many NC's. It is more of a national rivalry. BIG TIME!

I am not a homer, and i just speak the truth/what i believe. Everything i say i can back up with good data so therefore i am not a homer. Now will everything i say will come true? Hell no, but what i do say has merit. You just need to respect it and not fear it. USC has not been dominant for some time, so fans across the nation are skeptical. USC also plays on west coast, so there is a lot of east coast bias and many fans do not get to see USC play. I get to see all the teams play.

If I was a Washington St. fan and said they could beat any team in the nation outside of USC, then i would be a homer. I am not alone in believing USC clearly is the #2 team in the nation. DO you have to agree? NO.

it has decided many NC's

Do you honestly believe that no other rivalries have decided the NC as many times, if not MORE OFTEN than the USC/ND rivalry? The Florida / Florida St rivalry is a very young rivalry, but I'd almost be willing to bet it has decided more NC's. I really don't feel like researching this, and honestly its not worth the effort. You will always be a homer and no one here will ever change that...

Now lets get back to cappin' games!

Are you kidding me? USC the best team overall in the nation last year? Scott learn to read the two best teams whether we like it or not were

1. Ohio State (I hate Ohio St but I admit what is the facts)

2. Miami

USC lost 2 games, those teams above lost a combined ONE GAME! USC arguably was playing the best football at the end of the season but the end of the season isn't the WHOLE season. USC was not the best team PERIOD! Get a freaking clue.

I don't care for Ohio State much & people here know that but Scott whether you like it or not, Ohio State has lost ONE Game in almost 2 full seasons. USC has lost more then double that & realistically if LSU. Ohio St & USC runs the table, one of those two teams will leap frog them without a doubt.

Scott,

Your comments about OSU last year and the competition they played are both sad and moronic.

What you have to understand is that the SEC, Big 12, and Big 10(11) play tough games week in and week out. OSU won many games close last year, but you know what? They won them. I hate the Big Ten because I am an SEC guy, but facts are facts. Good teams make the plays at the right time against other good teams. Cal is not a good team, in fact, they are real bad. There is not a "good" team in this country with six losses. You team did not come up with the goods against Cal this year or the two games they lost last year. PERIOD!! Deal with it.

Since you think USC schedule is so tough. I am going to pose another question to you buddy.

RANK THE TOP 5 CONFERENCES!!

If you even think the PAC 10 should be in the top 3, you are a schmuck!! I don't even think they are top 5, but I, and a great deal of others would like to know. Answer the question this time and don't give me bullsh*t info. A simple answer will do.

I never said USC schedule was very tough. I just quoted that the BCS says USC SOS is the 16th toughest. I am very confident if Ohio St. played USC schedule this year, they would have at least 2 losses at this point in the season. AU, CAL, and WSU would beat OSU. @ ND is tough place to play and ND ?might? also give OSU a game (I would predict an OSU victory). Now back to USC schedule, before the season USC schedule looked tough on paper. 3 /4 OOC teams were bowl teams last year. 2 toughest OOC games were both on road. AU pre-season top 5 pick. (OSU OOC nowhere near as tough). NOW, UW and ASU were both pre-season pac 10 #1?s and USC played both on road. BACK TO BACK road games with UW & ND and played @ ASU. VERY tough looking schedule before the season. Unfortunately for USC, many of these teams are nowhere playing up to expectations. That is not USC fault, but give USC credit for destroying these teams with this tough away schedule.

Now for ?my? ranking of conferences. I will start off saying the pac 10 this year is not as tough as it usually is, especially record wise. What you don?t know, is the pac 10 teams all play each other very tough. Something else to consider, I think over the ?years? the pac 10 is the ?toughest? conference from top to bottom. 1-10. Look at the last 10 years pac 10 champion? Many different teams. Pac 10 beats on each other religiously and unfortunately many pac 10 teams drop out of the top 25 for this. IT IS NOT BECAUSE OF POOR PLAY!
Big 10 for example has always 3-4 LOSER teams, while the pac 10 usually has zero loser teams (except this year with Arizona). But even they beat UW.

Here is ?my? rankings of toughest conferences for this year so far. I am a knowledgeable fan, who has ESPN gameplan, and I am one of those fans who watches football from 9am-9pm on Sat. Top 6.

Here is my problem ranking conferences. In the pac 10 you play 9/10 teams, but in the Big 12 you play what, 8-9/12 teams. Often, the top teams in these conferences miss out on playing top teams rather than not playing the weak teams.
Then some of these conferences have a championship game, so that sort of solves that problem. Here is my ranking of conferences from top to bottom, ?not? a ranking of playing in these conferences. If that makes any sense.

#1) SEC= 8-9 and 2
#2)Big 12 = 8 and 3
#3 Big 10= 6 and 3
#4) Pac 10= 6 and 1-2
#5) ACC= 6 and 1-2
#6) Big East= 4 and 2

The #?s on the left are # of good teams, and #?s on right are # of bad teams in the conference. Did I spend hours calculating #?s to determine it? NO. So I def. can be wrong on this because I did not take the time to do a thorough research. Now I also took into count how many BCS teams, Powerhouses, and # of teams in each conference. Overall, I think it is very tough to compare conferences. It was difficult to rank them and this is just how I see it. I am positive everyone will have different rankings. Remember, there is east coast bias (reasonably so because west coast games are on late) but west coast fans get to see ?all? the teams play. Just wanted to throw that out there.

Lastly, there is a lot of season to be played, I just tried to make my calculation up to this point in time.

OSU were the NC last year. I agree 100% they deserved the NC. However I do not think they were the best team at the end of the year last year. I think USC was the best team at the end of the year and they would have beaten OSU and Miami. I think USC would have beaten OSU by 10-20pts and Miami by 7pts. I also think Miami would have taken USC a lot more serious. Provided Miami does not turn the ball over 5 times, key injuries during game, and ?questionable? ref call that all happened in the NC game. You can make an argument that OSU caused the turnovers with their great defense, but 5 is too many and I call it Miami not being prepared/focused. If all that happened against USC last year, Miami would have lost by 20-30pts, not in OT. All in all, OSU clearly were #1 in country, but were not the best team in the country. Just because OSU was ranked #1 does not mean they were the best team in the country. Without a playoff system, you cannot say OSU was the best team in the country. Many sports analysts agree with me that USC was the best ?team? last year. You are allowed to disagree.

Here is an example. What if OU loses the Big 12 championship game this year, and OSU played USC for NC. Say OSU pulled the greatest upset and beat USC ;). NOW, we all would crown OSU NC again this year. Would you say OSU was the best team in the nation? MANY can make strong argument OU was the best team in nation even though they did not play in the NC game and are not crowned NC. Get it? Guess what, i would not argue that unless OSU won the rest of there games soundly including the NC game.

Scott,

Interesting. If the SEC and Big Ten have the better conference and the losses came in those conferences, shouldn't the stronger conferences have a better shot at the title game assuming LSU, USC, and OSU all win out? Forget the non-conference schedule for a moment because none of them played Miami or FSU right?

If Ohio St. wins out, they most likely will play in NC game.

If USC wins out, USC might play in the NC game.

If LSU wins out, they might play in the NC game.

Who do I think is the 2nd best team in the nation? USC without a doubt.

Does the best team in the nation always play in the NC game? NO. (blame the system and having no playoffs) Last year USC was the best team in the nation and did not get to play in NC game. (they did not deserve too because they had 2 losses) But they were the best team in the nation.

OSU loses, and USC wins out, i don't "think" it matters what LSU does. Especially if WSU wins out and gives USC QW pts. We will know a lot more after this week because OSU might lose, LSU might lose, and USC will take a big hit on SOS while OSU and LSU will increase their SOS.

Scott,

What you need to put is that it is your opinion that USC was the best team in the nation. I am sure it is the majority of the people on here that think they were the third best team in the nation, including me. Good team, but with two losses and who they lost to, they were not the "best" team in the nation IMO. That is rediculous IMO. You are speaking from a west coast opinion IMO. You are a homer IMO. Say something that would leave all of us to believe otherwise.
