I am 100% sure USC would be -1 over OU. Vegas said so. So if vegas had OU -7 over LSU, why would it be so hard to "imagine" that USC would be -7 over LSU????? I did not say that WOULD be the line, but since i know vegas would have made USC -1 over OU, and they favored OU -7 over LSU, why is it so hard to believe USC be -7 over LSU?

I know how vegas lines are set, it is to get 50% action, so i know it does not mean who will win the game.

If USC played LSU next week, i think USC would be favored by 3.

No Scott, Vegas does not set lines to get 50% action on each side. . . I need to cap the games for college basketball tonight before I call it a night. . . there's no need for me to continue this.

Stats are useless when comparing USC. USC offensive stats are low because USC offensive starters only played for 3 quarters in almost every game.

USC defensive stats are misleading for 2 reasons. #1 USC plays 2nd, 3rd, and walk ons during blowouts and USC blew out every opponent except CAL.

2nd, USC defense plays a soft zone, and takes out opposing teams running game. SO USC gives up crap load of yards but few points. Opposing offenses have to make numerous plays to just go down the field, and once inside the 20, USC D tightens up. It worked all year, but yes it gave up ton of yards. It is not the defense Carroll wants to run, but USC has had some injuries to LB and not the right players in his system.

Remember, this was a rebuilding year at USC both offensively and defensively.

yep thats how mike lee caps all his games

i would love to see it for sure just one more game

it would definitly be a good saban and pete carroll are both both dam good coaches best out there this yr for sure
both d's are outstanding
just a small edge to usc on offense
if anything special teams would probably be the diff.

lsu scared me bad at the end i was afraid they would punt
and get it run back.

:)

I agree T-Bone, good post.

I think LSU defense is better than USC, except USC has better DL and LSU has much better secondary. Both defenses play different styles. USC plays soft zone because USC is still building. This is rebuilding year. I think USC has much much better offense than LSU. LSU would have to score over 20pts to beat USC, and USC would not turn the ball over like OU, not commit so many fouls like OU, and be much more discplined. Norm Chow is 10x better than the OC for OU. I also think Lienart is much better QB than White.

i would think usc would be a (-3) favorite over lsu if the game was played tomorrow.

ill tell you what lsu did a great job of in the title game.

they did a great job of jumping on oklahoma early, thus allowing the sooners to start questioning themselves (since they were coming off that kansas state debacle)

once oklahoma started to settle in, they played well enough to win. but their offense was a complete joke. its not so much the playcalling as it was white simply being awful. and they were playing from behind again. even though they have the talent to do it, they dont have the mindset to do it, since they hadnt done it all year

i think oklahoma has superior defensive personnel compared to lsu. but i think lsu's schemes are a little bit better.

usc would still move the ball because youre not gonna stop them completely. but they wouldnt chunk yardage away like they did vs michigan. okie or lsu simply dont give up big chunks of yardage

since the question was posed, i would give usc a very slight lean simply because i dont think lsu has enough offense to keep pace.

michigan had the offense to keep pace with usc. they just didnt have the defense.

lsu has the defense. just not sure if they have the offense. talent? yes. ability to score consistently? they were shaky at times this year.

id say usc in a very tight game. 24-20

Great Post and agree 100% G-Man. I think you left out the HORRIBLE PLAYCALLING by the OU Offensive Coordinator. Why is OU afraid to run the ball? In 1h OU has succuss running, and then on the 2nd to last drive, OU was running it down LSU throats. OU gets ball on LSU 14, 1st and 10, and they throw it 4 straight times. Of course, White could not make a game tying throw. I seriously would not want him as my QB and I know he prob. played with that injured wrist or hand. So what, he lost the game for OU.

USC might be a 4 point fave over LSU. Oklahoma looked like they were struggling on offense against LSU.

Congratulations to all LSU backers. They are truly a # 1 team. I think
both these teams deserve to be co-champs.

I have to admit i lost money this football season, next year i will just be spot playing.

Good Luck all and congratulations to LSU-USC and Oklahoma fans on a great season.

Before the game I would have thought USC would win. HOwever, LSU dominated from start to finish. I thought Mauck had a terrible game. They fumbled at the one yard line. That INT was horrific and he made some other poor decisions that I am not used to him making. If he plays well, they win that game by three touchdowns. Domination by LSU. I say it would be a close game, but would now lean a little to LSU. Play it on a neutral field though!!

The thing that bothers me about determining who's number #1, #2, etc., etc., is the value that is placed on power ratings. Power ratings based on strength of schedule, and who knows what else. Now that the bowl games are over and the various conferences have shown their strengths or weaknesses, just how accurate can a rating system be when the so-called 'top conferences' don't perform that well against outside competition? I think that fact diminishes the whole rating system. So many people felt going into the bowls that the Big 12 was arguably the best football conference in the country. . . which would include sports writers, coaches, and people who compile power ratings. Since the Big 12 didn't fair too well in the bowls, were all of these people wrong? Was the Big 12 overrated? Maybe. Does the Big 12 get extra rating points because of the perception of their tough conference which adds weight to their strength of schedule? Probably.
The only fair way to determine #1 is on the field. Someone else mentioned that the best collegiate sport is basketball, where a true champion is determined on the court. Every NCAA championship is determined on the field of endeavor. . . except in Division I-A football.
It's time the NCAA goes back to square one, and sets up a new format for determining the true national football champion, similar to the one they use for determining every other division of collegiate sport.

Mauk is not a great QB, and he made bad decisions against Ole Miss as well. Remember? LSU offense could not move ball against an Ole Miss defense, and Ole Miss would have beat LSU if not for 2 missed FG's. LSU needs to send big thankyou card to OLE MISS KICKER.

USC defense plays soft zone, and has the #1 DL in nation. SO LSU not gonna run the ball against USC, and USC will make Mauk complete over 10 completions on each drive to score a TD. NOT GONNA HAPPEN! That is how USC played defense this year. Take away the other teams run and make the QB make numerous plays each drive, which increases prob. the QB will make mistakes. USC DL, held prob. the 2 best RB's the nation under 100 yards, i think Perry got 86 and Jackson got something like 56. USC DL is downright scary, and everyone on that DL is back at
USC next year!!!!!!!!!!!

On offense, USC has vastly superior talent than OU, and better coaching. Norm Chow vs Saban would be awesome to see. I think CHow wins because USC has better athletes. Saban likes to single cover the WR and bring the house. USC has an awesome OL (3 seniors) to pick up blitz and nobody can gaurd Mike Williams one on on, and for that matter, nobody can guard Keary Colbert (2nd WR) one on one either. He is most underrated WR in nation and i said so before Michigan game and he absolutely exploded at the ROSE BOWL! Look what he has done all year and against Michigan. USC is lot more disciplined than OU and not commit penalties or drop balls.

BTW, nice call on OU being the best team ever!!! :joke:

FIGHT ON!!!!!!!!!!

Scott,

I think if you will read the post dipsh*t, I said that I thought they "MAY" be the best ever. I started that for debate when they were kicking the sh*t out of everyone in the big 12. Now after the bowl season, I see that the big 12 was fairly weak, such as the PAC-10. Get the facts straight before you speak.
