LVMS cuts ticket prices for '10 Sprint Cup race

Tickets for the 2010 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway will be the lowest priced in the event's 13-year history, facility officials announced.

The speedway also will offer a special payment plan when tickets go on sale Aug. 17.

A limited number of tickets for the race -- tentatively set for Feb. 28 -- will be available for $49.

The speedway also has reduced pricing for all weekend packages and Cup race-only tickets. "Family 4-Packs" have been created that will cost $316 for the three-day weekend and $199 for Sunday only.

"Given the economy we're in, we felt it was necessary to make a statement that we understand the situation many of our customers are in," LVMS president Chris Powell said.

This year's Cup race on March 1 was declared a sellout by the speedway, but the estimated crowd of 140,000 was down by about 10 percent from the previous year when temporary grandstands were needed.

Ticket buyers can opt to use a payment plan that requires one-third payment at the time of purchase, with the balance collected in equal payments Oct. 15 and Nov. 15. Powell said that will minimize interest charges if a credit card is used.

The race weekend is expected to begin Feb. 26, with practice and Cup qualifying, followed the next day by the NASCAR Nationwide Series Sam's Town 250.

The 2010 Cup race probably will be 400 miles. The March race was 427 miles to accommodate sponsorship by Las Vegas-based Shelby Automobiles, which had agreed to a one-year deal. No sponsor has been signed for next year's race.

That could be a cold day in SIN CITY, I was at the race when it snowed on Qualifying day and it was 39 at green flag, and that was March 9 2005

I went to the '08 race and it was in March. It was pretty darn windy and cold. I think the temps were in the 40's that morning and never made it above 50 for the day. The wind was what was so bad.
Better pack a coat for Vegas in Feb.
