LVSC Rankings - Giants move up
Entering the third week of the NFL season, Las Vegas Sports Consultants has released its newest power rankings. The top two teams remain the same, while several teams in the middle of the top ten made significant moves.
Despite falling to the Jets, the Patriots stayed in the top spot this week. New England is two minutes away from an 0-2 start, following their comeback win the opening week against Buffalo. The Pats return home to host a talented Falcons squad this Sunday in Foxboro.
The Steelers played their second game decided by a field goal, but finished on the losing end, 17-14 to the Bears. Pittsburgh is averaging 70 yards rushing a game, which ranks 28th in the league, while tallying just 27 points the first two contests. Mike Tomlin's team plays its first divisional contest this Sunday, traveling to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals.
The Giants moved up three slots to third after their last-second victory at Dallas last Sunday night. Much was made in the offseason about Eli Manning not having weapons to throw to this season, but the Giants' QB hit Mario Manningham and Steve Smith for ten catches each in the 33-31 win over the Cowboys. Tom Coughlin's team begins a stretch against three teams in which the Giants should beat: Bucs, Chiefs, and Raiders.
The Ravens are making headlines with their offense prowess recently, ascending to fourth in the rankings. Baltimore put up 31 on San Diego this past week, despite racking up only 311 yards (compared to the 501 yards against Kansas City in Week 1). Joe Flacco has completed 62.3% of his passes, while Willis McGahee has found the end zone four times. The Ravens are favored by 13 ? at home against the winless Browns.
The Cowboys took a tumble from fourth to eleventh after losing to the Giants. Tony Romo threw three interceptions versus New York, one week after the Dallas QB tossed three touchdown passes against the Bucs. The Cowboys will be featured in the national spotlight again this week, hosting the 0-2 Panthers on Monday Night.
The Jets (15th to 12th) and Niners (21st to 18th) each jumped three spots this week with their surprising 2-0 starts. New York has not allowed an offensive touchdown through two games, while San Francisco's defense has given up just two touchdowns so far. The Jets host the winless Titans Sunday, while the Niners head to Minnesota to battle the undefeated Vikings.
The Redskins' offense hasn't been strong and despite beating the Rams, Washington slipped from 17th to 22nd. Jim Zorn's team was held out of the end zone against St. Louis, as the Redskins have scored one offensive touchdown the first two games. Washington heads to Detroit to take on a Lions squad that has dropped 19 straight contests.
