Oh dear. I really didn't want my first blog post in a week to be yet another one about global bloody warming. Problem is, if those lying, cheating climate scientists will insist on going on lying and cheating what else can I do other than expose their lying and cheating?

The story so far: ten days ago a self-proclaimed "sceptical" climate scientist named Professor Richard Muller of Berkeley University, California, managed to grab himself some space in the Wall Street Journal (of all places) claiming that the case for global warming scepticism was over. Thanks to research from his Berkeley Earth Surface Temperatures (BEST) project, Professor Muller stated confidently, we now know that the planet has warmed by almost one degree centigrade since 1950. What's more, he told the BBC's Today programme, there is no sign that this global warming has slowed down.

Cue mass jubilation from a number of media outlets which, perhaps, ought to have known better ? among them, the Independent, the Guardian, The Economist and Forbes magazine. To give you an idea of their self-righteous indignation at the supposed ignorance of climate change deniers, here is the Washington Post's Eugene Robinson in full spate:
<TABLE border=0 cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=135 align=right><TBODY><TR><TD>
</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>
We know that the rise in temperatures over the past five decades is abrupt and very large. We know it is consistent with models developed by other climate researchers that posit greenhouse gas emissions ? the burning of fossil fuels by humans ? as the cause. And now we know, thanks to Muller, that those other scientists have been both careful and honorable in their work.

Nobody?s fudging the numbers. Nobody?s manipulating data to win research grants, as Perry claims, or making an undue fuss over a ?naturally occurring? warm-up, as Bachmann alleges. Contrary to what Cain says, the science is real.
Problem is, Eugene, almost every word of those two paragraphs is plain wrong, and your smugness embarrassingly misplaced.
As you know, I had my doubts about Muller's findings from the start. I thought it was at best disingenuous of him to pose as a "sceptic" when there is little evidence of him ever having been one. As for his argument that the BEST project confounds sceptics by proving global warming exists ? this was never more than a straw man.

The church of environmentalism. It is big business, Lumi. Probably rivals the Catholic Church in scope.

I wonder if humans would have been egocentric enough that had we been alive in the Triassic, Jurassic or Cretaceous Period, we would have thought that our actions were causing the climate changes then? Or that our actions caused the break-up of the single continent Pangea?

We are but an insignificant spec in geological time.

Same climate change deniers gave us the Iraq war and stop stem cell funding. Gave us tax breaks during war time ans has somehow conned guys in Kentucky that there is class warfare going on and the middle class is winning. Oh and George Soros and Acorn have ruined the world. Bizarre that a lot of top athletes are now flying out of the country to get stem cell treatment. A disgrace.

Sponge:

You think Soros is a good guy?

WOW.

anyway - the word that keeps popping up in my head reading that article is "calculated".

I wonder how all that data was gathered and 'calculated'.

I mean, these people have no axe to grind.......

Don't believe everything you read.

Other than quoting Fox News, please give us few facts about George Soros which prove that he is not a "good guy".

He is labeled an economic war criminal by the country of Thailand.

I'm sure that is for all his generosity to the Thai people.

He purposefully sets up government collapses while he bets on the currency failing.

Claims, no links, no proof, no facts. Maybe Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck can provide you with some.

Unsupported claims are not facts.

Bogus claims are not facts.

Innuendo is not fact.

Bullshit....that's not fact either.

Knock yourself out.

Right wingers have a sudden attack of ethics when it comes to the way Soros made his fortune, Duff. When conservatives do it, it's free-market capitalism. When liberals do it, they're "economic war criminals".

Thanks for putting words in my mouth, Trench.

You two are like a comedy duo - but it isn't funny.

Anyway, I have no "links" to provide to you, Muff.

If you want to believe that ole Georgie is a nice little old man, that's fine. I really do not care.

I do not buy into the progressive mantra that you and Mr. Soros love to spew.

I think the man's policies are bad and he profits off the misfortune of others (and acts to cause the misfortune in order to profit)

You think the Koch brothers are bad; I think Soros is bad.

99 percent of the scientist are on my side and u are telling me watch what i read :mj07: Oh and the other one percent? They work for the fossil fuel industry. That is the problem with u right wingers. Science is not a big part of ur lives. Faith is tho. Faith before facts.

And NO comments on the false data from the pseudo - scientist.

Not surprising at all.

Yes - I am an independent, Sponge.

And I support GARY JOHNSON.

I think for myself. Say all you want about Skulnick and DTB being neo-cons and voting party line - you are exactly the same in the other paradigm. You wouldn't know an original thought even if you managed to puke one out onto the computer screen.

I'm IN the green industry and I DO NOT believe in global warming.

OMFG.

Why is it ok that atheists and agnostics do not believe in God but if someone questions global warming, they are heretical?

Is it because the almighty SCIENCE is now producing data that says it is real?

Amazingly enough, scientific theorums do get proven to be false.

You rant and rave on corporations and profits and how evil they are - have you ever really looked at how big the enviromental BUSINESS is?

I'm guessing no.

There is a reason AL GORE has been pushing the GLobal Warming agenda so hard for so long.

And here's a hint - it's not because he is a Save the Earth kinda guy.
