St Peters -5.5 over Canisius ***
Griffs won last nite but Foxes game plan was great..Attacked in the paint and then let their gds penetrate...Foxes with 2 minutes left got winded and faded...Griffs have to say we were lucky last nite...what can you say about Peter...Dunne has done an amazing coaching job...he doesn't have the "horses" that the Monmouths,Iona's and Siena's has...so why has he won 6 in a row is 18-12 and more importantly to us here that are dumb enough to wager he is 9-1 ats....Kansas is ranked No 2 in the country and is 6-15 ats{ made that up but close}. Dunne plays that "slow down style tempo,and plays suffocating defense...ranked 9th in the country...now don't forget some teams that play slow down offense are always in the top on defense...that doesn't make them a great defensive team...there were some years where Princeton was No 1 in the country in defense and they were really a little above avg..but Peacocks really play shut you down defense...Chazz P is a gd who avgs maybe 4 or 5 pts a game but will take the other teams top scorer..think he wins Def POY in conf....on offense Peter only avgs 66 points which ranks them around 310th...but they shoot FT's well,rebound well and can hit the 3....they have 5 guys who have 62,115,50 and 61 assists...Dunne's theme " move the ball and share the ball"....Welton is the big kid inside...Wyche is their best gd..they only avg 12 points each....in their last few games they have won by +15 -20...so their offense is getting better...Peter has that chip on the shoulder attitude...we are poor,campus is in Jersey City,high schools all over have better gyms and nobody shows up to our games...Griffs meanwhile get a new coach in Reggie W who was fired at Buffalo...he coached at the local JC before Buf...he plays uptemp and the Griffs avg 80 pts a game..I kid around and call them the "running Griffs"...Valenti who I swear has been there 6 years in there big guy..he played great last nite in their win over Marist...Crumpton,Robert,Douse and their pt gd Johnson can score....but think Reggie who brings this uptempo offense from across the street brings his no defense..if Foxes who have no inside attack and only real strength is its gds beat you last week and just lost to you last nite by a few might have some trouble tonite...the teams split where Peter more recently won 72-65 and Griffs won at Peter 72-70...this is a tough game because you have the 9th best def team in the country going against one of the worst..Griffs give up 78 pts a game ranking them 307th...
Peter is the hotter team,more rested since they got to watch last nite...think Peter's offense will dictate the game and not give Griifs a lot of ball possessions...my only problem with this game is when I capped it last night I had Peter -6 to -7....so can't make it a strong play.....but think Peter can win this and cover...
Monmouth -12 over Niagara ***
Robinson on fire...he was just named POY of MAAC..his coach King Rice Coach of yr...they are 25-6 and 18-2 in the conf..have won 10 in a row,avg 80 pts a game,can stick the 3 and shoot 75% FT,etc,etc...they give up 73 pts but play good perimeter defense..Purple come in with a nice win over Quinn last nite...Scott is a stud..but on defense they give up 78 points a game...so you have a top off teams vs a weak def team..Purple have lost 7 of last 10...their biggest loss was to Monmouth by 18,lost to iona by 14 and Fairfield by 20...beat Canisius by 13...Hawks have Brady in the middle,Seaborn and Horns can score....and you have the 5'8 waterbug Robinson who is almost impossible to stop....and then he can stop on a dime and stick a 3....think Purple will not be able to stop him....and Hawks have to be playing with some concern..last yr left out of the NCAA despite beating the ND's ,UCLA's etc...they don't have those big wins this year and Lunardi last year had them at a 12 or 13 th seed...they get beat in the MAAC tourney and theri at the Junior prom...think Hawks win this by 15-20...but I found a trend that has me suspect..Monmouth as a 13 pt fav is 3-10 ...but found another one that Niagara is 5-11 as a dog after a win....I don't play trends but do look at them...my favorite trend..when the Niagara Falls is at over 95% capacity on the Canadian side the Purple are 0-13....tonite its at 97%....
Will pass on all the other games today..did about 5 or 6 games and couldn't find any big advantages....

Tomorrow coaching my granddaughters last YMCA basketball game..then her 1st little league after that..then my kids for Christmas bought me tickets to the Texas-Baylor game...
