Iona -4 over Manhattan****
Who in there wildest dream would think the Jaspers are playing in the finals with a record of 14-17....looks like if they win they will play Liberty{ 2 teams with losing records} But the Jaspers are 9-3 in there last 12 games..Masiello who came from Memphis has done a great coaching job this yr.Beamon the pre-season POY played 4 games before being lost for the season...Alvardo is a great pt gd and quietly does his job passing the ball and playing tough defense.Brown inside is a force.Manhattan-Iona split this yr 74-73 MC in 2 Ot's and 78-70..In those 2 games Iona couldn't stop Brown scoring and his dominance on defense. He had 8 and 7 blocked shots..that's 15 total...Manhattan plays great defense and has trouble scoring..beat Fairfield 2 weeks ago 34-31...beat them the other day in the tourney and beat Loy Md...both of those teams are good def. teams so MC didn't have to score much in those games...But in comes Iona, No 3 in the nation in scoring,No 1 in the MAAC in pts,scoring margin,FT%,3 pt%,rebounding,APg's,turn over ratio,etc...meanwhile on the flip side of that MC on defense is No 1 in scoring def, DefFG%,Blocked shots,etc...and to flip it again Iona ranks at the bottom on defense and MC at the bottom on offense...
Iona has Jones who is No 2 in the nation in scoring.Armond,Bowman,Jones and Dennis can all stick the 3. Three of them are on top of the MAAC in FG%....Iona has hit 150 3's to MC's 107...
Iona has so much more talent but we all know that doesn't mean anything in games like this...Although Manhattan plays great D Iona should be able to outscore them and lead most of the game...MC' has to play catch up and speed up the game..although they can play from behind its harder to against this offense...Iona has Laury inside who can help contain Brown...think Iona doubles down on him..stop Brown and let Andujar or Alvardo beat you....
Think Iona wins this by 10-14 pts...even though Iona has trouble on defense they led the conf in turnover ratio and only avg 10 a game...MC avgs 15 a game...and Iona has Momo who I guess had the flu this week...he is a stud in this league....and if he goes off there is no one to stop him.. Iona's problem is " there is only one basketball"...if they share it tonite they should win and cover
