Thanks for the update, Stu. I have a Mac sitting on my desk that I have to do tests for our software on daily. I am very familiar with Macs and PCs. I have more experience on PCs, but that is due to my choice of system that is easiest to use (in the grand scheme of things--i.e. sending/receiving files to others, availability of software, etc.) Unless it is a completely specialized program like the ones you mentioned, your child is NEVER going to be asked to use a Mac by a company. So, in that respect, you are doing a disservice to your child if you buy them a Mac.
Second, I have worked for newspapers and small-time magazines, and the grip that Mac has had on this industry is slipping. It's not gone, but they are losing market share. You see Macs in school districts (and other federal funded programs) a lot becuase Macs give huge discounts. It's called marketing. I talk to people that are forced to buy Macs because of price every day, and 9 out of 10 would throw every Mac out the window if they had a choice. One industry that I always hear praise about Macs is the music industry as in my initial post. If someone is praising a Mac, it is usually due to some affectionate ties that they feel with the company. They have done a wonderful job of this in the marketing department. Cute little laptops, colorful monitors, etc.
Most of the attacks on PCs is usually something to do with Bill Gates.
There's no sense in you attacking me personally, but if that's your style then so be it.
Carry on.
