Superstitious football fans have long believed that any player featured on the cover of Electronic Arts' wildly popular "Madden" football games is doomed to suffer from a sort of jinx. Debilitating injuries sustained by past cover models Daunte Culpepper, Marshall Faulk, and Michael Vick have bolstered the theory. Sensing yet another potential revenue stream, enterprising Electronic Arts executives recently put the cover position for Madden NFL 2005 up for sale.

Terrell Owens submitted this Madden NFL 2005 cover design to EA for consideration.
EA had hoped to benefit financially from players or general managers who were looking to put a key competitor on the disabled list. What they didn't expect was to get involved in the ongoing feud between Philadelphia Eagle wide receiver Terrell Owens and quarterback Jeff Garcia. "When we came up with the idea, we were expecting [Washington Redskins owner] Daniel Snyder to jump all over it," said EA president, John Riccitiello. "I mean, he's already wasted a small fortune. It seemed logical that he'd pay us some of that money to put [Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan] McNabb out of commission. We never anticipated TO's interest."

Owens paid an undisclosed amount to EA for the rights to put Garcia on the cover, further chilling the relationship between the former teammates.

Owens declined to speak with GameSpot on the matter.

If my memory serves me correct Vince Carter was on the cover of NBA Live 2004, he remained healthy

I know there's been many injury due to the EA Sports curse, but this story just shows the true colors of our buddy Terrell Owens. Does anything else really need to be said about the lack of maturity by Terrell Owens?

It was a joke I found -- obviously EA isn't pimping out the cover. I believe Tom Brady will be on the cover this year (down with the Pats!)

As a huge Eagle fan, I'm willing to put up with Owens' antics if we can get over the hump. I realize that Philly fans have a bad rep, some of which is warrented, but going over 20 years without a major sports title is really starting to hurt. If we win a championship with Owens, I'll love the guy.....if we go 8-8 and he's running his mouth he'll join Ricky Watters on the Philly sh*t list.

I just can't believe Andy Reed is going to have anything but a very short fuze with this asswipe.

I'm suprised too --- if Reid thought that Duce Staley was too vocal as a malcontent then he's in for a big suprise with TO.....things will be very interesting the first time McNabb hits Owens in the feet with a few passes.

I'd expect it to be Manning or McNair, actually. Or maybe even Portis.
