gotta say i'm with ie and jack on the over 8- in this one. schmidt 5.10 era vs the braves lifetime and hasn't been in great form lately as has already been pointed out. in his only night appearance this year he gave up 6 er in 4 innings. giants hot against lefties lately hitting .478 last 10. home plate ump schreiber decent over ump ranking 15th of 88 umps at 14-9 over this year, 17-11 over last year, averaging 10.26 rpg. as noted above wind out to center.

A couple of great deals...

Gameday Sports OVER 8.5 -110

VIP Sports Over 8.5 -105

I'll take the latter,

also with about an hour to game time I was curious if anyone has made a final decision on the side in this one.

On the course!
I've had a bad day, but I must chime in anyway.

I think this is a mistake. I highly doubt that Glavine gets rocked, and Atlanta won't put up a ton of runs, either.

That "half" run could be all the difference in the world tonight.

I am not risking anything here, but IMHO, the best bet on this game is the Braves at even money or as a small favorite.

Remember:

"You don't have to bet just because it is on the tube, and the only game left!"

This is bad practice, and it will bite you in the ass.

Bad mojo going on here, fellas..........

A few thoughts on why I am backing the giants tonight. First off they are a home team trying to avoid the sweep on national T.V. Secondly, the public is on atlanta and for some reason the ESPN games seem to beat down the public, it does seem too good to be true to be getting Glavine at basically even money. If it seems to be good to be true it usually is.

Now let's break it down a little further, Schmidt already admitted he has something to show everyone tonight, and pitching against the braves gets him a bit juiced, something that I think will work in his favor. The giants have had a power outage of late but that should change for a couple of reasons.
1) There will be some lineup changes in tonight's game and that will spark tonight's offense.
2) The giants admitted that they had problems going from maddux to Marquis because they went from a soft thrower to a hard thrower. Now it is just the opposite as they go from a hard thrower in marquis to a light thrower in Glavine which will allow them to get around on his fastball.

Finally Bonds is on fire, and since the supporting cast hits glavine well there should be people on base when bonds is up.

Simple (AOL) stuff:

Glavine wins on the road and has not lost in two months.
In the past 11 games he's started, he has not given up more than 3 runs once but . . . he has 73 walks which raises his walks+hits/IP quite a bit.

Bonds has seen him a lot, only had 3 HRs in his career but has hit Glavine for a BA of .324. Bonds is also hitting almost .600 (!!) vs the Bravos starters and BP this year. I think he might have a look at a few RBI opportunities if Glavine walks 3-4 men.

Schmidt's ERA vs Bravos is 5.91 LT. He won a 13-7 slugfest LG but gave up 5runs, only 3 earned, in 5 IPs. He gave the Fish 8 hits in those 5IPs. Lotta' baserunners. Chipper kills Schmidt (.550 BA, 11-20 11 RBIs, 4 HRs)

Aurilia's wife is about to give birth (or did she just deliver??) but he is the line up today.

Braves will need 5-6 runs in this game and will win 6-4.

Braves and over for me.

THIS IS BIG GAME
BRAVES WOULD LOOOOOVE THE SWEEP
GIANTS HAVE TOO MUCH PRIDE
PRESSURE WILL BE ON
PITCHERS WILL BE ON
BRAVES WITH THE BETTER PITCHER WINS.

BRAVES 2-1.

BRAVES AND UNDER!

think hot lanta sweeps myself but no play there but i'm going super big on the under. glavine has been pitching very well and the braves bats have been silent only scoring 5 runs in this series , giants only 2. lefty vs lefty favors glavine wind can blow out all it wants alot of ground balls tonight. looking at another 3-1, 4-2 score. this should be a classic pitchers dual.

another point to make atlanta has given up 5 runs in the last 4 games and 2 of those where in colorado. atlanta wins by pitching and spot runs scored. the pitching has been nothing short of excellent the last 4 games from the starters to the bullpen. this pitching staff is in the zone. I will say glavine has had a tendency to give up runs but not lately. if they don't get to him in the first inning tonight this game is over imo.

strong lean atlanta

definate play under 8' hoping i get 9 somewhere.

gl guys.

Great input by all and a good point was brought up earlier in the post.

You should not play this game just to have action, because it is the only game left and/or it is on televsion.

Just wanted to say thanks to all who added input and reasoning to justify their selections.

Thanks again,

JT

neverteaseit, you never cease to amaze me at how well you can read a game. This one has played out "exactly" as you described, including the failure to get to Glavin in the first inning. Unless there is another score, which I kind of doubt, looks like it will end 3 - 1 just as you said.

I always appreciate your insight.

NCU thanks i get lucky every now and then, but i will rarely play overs. i hate them. i love an under. any pitcher can pitch a great game any night, even though i thought atlanta would sweep i felt the under was the strongest play by far, wish i could have chimed in earlier and debated but was commited to other things.

of all the teams today that could sweep the weekend series atlanta was the only one to fail.
