If anyone is handicapping and making 90% of thier income from betting I like to know who they are.I`m not talking about selling picks or writing articles for the gaming industry. The fact is if you need the money just like a person who is working to.pay rent, food, and a little savings can anyone on this site make this claim?

I for one will be losing my job this year and will look at sportsbetting ,poker, blackjack has a way to make some money. ANY help appreciated

try as hard as you can to find a new job...can't imagine depending on gambling for a living and dealing w/ the bad beats, terrible runs, etc. as they are inevitable. if you "need" to make money to pay rent, it'd be hard to weather those storms and be patient...which is the only way to win consistently

I spent to years after highschool witout a job. I was never broke iwas a runner for a bookie, and I plyed poker daily and Grinded out a decent living. That said I was also living rent free. Just had a car and girlfriend to spend money on.

I once figured that for a year I made about 20 bucks an hour playing poker. Not bad for a 19 yr old kid.

did the same thing a couple years back, smashmouth.... but i think it gets tougher to do as you get older because you have more bills to pay and hopefulyl will start to look ahead.

DETOX -- it can be done, but the thing that sucks now is that I have an exponential correlation between the time that I spend handicapping and my success.. .. when i start to half-ass it, as i do now, i can't make money. so i needed to spend a ton of time in order to be successful. when I was out of work, it was ok, but now that i'm working a ton my time spent gambling is down and i find it hard to make money (and actually i've lost money this football season). also your bankroll might affect your success. it's a lot easier to make money when you have money. it gives you a chance to do things the right way..... again, i'm on a limited budget now so i don't bet the way i'd like and it ends up costing me money (betting) but obviously I have to do it that way or else I'd put myself in financial jeopardy by risking too much that i shouldn't lose.

good luck with with your venture.

i know i'm much better off and much happier when i work a ton at something i love. i've got a job now that the more i work -- the more i succeed, and i love what i do just the same.... but a couple years ago my main work was b-s and the gambling stuff gave me a great chance to make money, spend time, and use some brain power that i didn't have to exercise at my regular job.

so i say go for it and as long as you are in control of yourself you will never look back and say you never tried it. otherwise you will always think of 'what could have been.'

Been Woofin' it up and celebrating ( not premateurly I hope..)

Not being rude but if you gotta ask..ya better wait...

Jmo..which usually drawa a lot of flack....

but If you doubt you can ..you most likely can't.

Give yourself a little test, be honest with yourself cap enough games to get 100 that you would bet,and flat bet em (on paper is ok)....No ml plays ...if you are + 55% or better it would be a good indication. no sure thing .........but might give you insight into your ability?

just a suggestion;

Why?

Yea I know juice is 10% but money management would be picked up in the bet size to bankroll amounts... And Ml bets But this is only "101" and for purposes of ability 55%+ works for this test.

Best of luck to you.

I will try and give you some advice here.

You will know what your annual outgoings will be so your bankroll should be at least twenty times this sum. This is based on winning 5% of your bankroll per year.

I know it doesn't sound to hard but believe me it is. Play 10% of your bankroll at any one time. Hold at least half your bankroll in savings account so you gain interest on money. Every little helps.

DO NOT CHASE LOSSES

LIMIT WHAT YOU PLAY

CONCENTRATE ON ONE OR TWO SPORTS THAT YOU WIN AT ON A REGULAR BASIS, ALL OTHER SPORTS LEAVE WELL ALONE.

From what you have said you will play video poker, blackjack, poker and bet sports, this to me is two much. Do you know how much time all this will involve. You will burn yourself out within months.

I bet for a living here in the UK. I dont have any other form of work and my income is gained purely from sports betting. I spend a minimum of ten hours aday finding betting opportunities, so my week is 70 hours minimum. Thats equivalent to two weeks work here if I worked for a company.

Would I change what I did now for a living? NO
Because I can stop when I want, I'm my own boss. I can go on Holiday when I want and not when company closes for breaks your when others in department aren't on vacation.

There are several things that you will need to acquire if you want to be successful and you have probably read them on here many times, however, apart from money management you will need plenty of guts to stomach the poor (losing) runs. Mark my words, however damn good you are these will come along and when they do it hurts. You begin to question yourself and lose belief in what you are doing. I suggest you take a bavk seat, stop betting but monitor what your plays would be. When your trends, angles etc start appearing successful step back in. You do not have to bet every day. Your betting bank should be a minimum of 50 X your average play or 25 X your maximum play. Bear in mind your maximum plays should hit atleast 60%.

But the biggest hurdle you will come accross and need to beat is STRESS, and believe me this pursuit is one of the most stressful I have ever come accross.

If you want to talk e-mail via my link on first page of my community pages.

Good Luck if you decide to wager for a living.

if possable wait till baseball till make the move 75% of my income is made at baseball season. With the other sports it has been hit and miss for the 6. 5 years i have been full time. up untill the last 3 years was in the black in red each year the last 3 in the black with this year nba i probably do 20 games and most of those are tipps. don't dabble much early on i do then some totals.

ncaafb has had a nice 4 year run but this year will be red. nhl have won but pick and choose something that fits my set up which is very few games in the year lucky to get 25 for what i look for and do not play them big boxing i do very welll but takes money to do it.

be ready to bust out a few time till you get the system that works for you not others and money management is number 1.

and what ever you do if it is not human stay far away you will never win over all but some comps to feed you why they slowly bleed you dry.

good luck and don't listen to people who say it can't be done it can and is but trust me it is not the life of the big chesse you see on tv , it is a very streesful life with lots of ups and downs.

set a living budget of what it cost you each week to just get buy and when you make it for the week + a few units shut down and no extra spending the first few years by being caught in the fast lane life style because it's the number 1 way to bust out found out the hard way had to bowwor cash twice lucky i had the family that knew i could make it and was willing to give me 2 chances on their backing there would not of been a 3rd.

be ready to feel stress and listen but don't ask around at the book and you will find 1-2 people that do have a clue or run and after a while you can pick up good info and make a nice contact.

just don't get blinded by the lights because they will burn you.

good luck.

Fletcher,

I agree with you that it can be done but How much of a bankroll roll do you need to start? Does anyone know? I guess it would depend on your monthly bills. But for the average American Joe with a Mortgage and two cars that could be well over $3000 a month not including other expenses.

Does your bankroll need to be $100,000?

Any and all comments welcomed....

I agree with alot of what you have to say Fletch. I'm sick & tired of reading these boards with disgruntled people who feel you can't make a living doing it. All because so & so failed at it doesn't mean you will.
