Above the Clouds....
Anyone ever have an advertising idea for a major company? I've got one I think might work but I don't know who to contact. I've asked around and nobody seems to know. I figured MJers might know the answer. Thanks

Tell the wrong person or approach it the wrong way telling the company and you will be sitting on the corner with your thumb in your ear.

Capitalism at its best.

By the way....whats the idea ?

Above the Clouds....
Thanks Guys,
I contacted the company and yes it is a Fortune 500 co. They politely told me all their promotion was within and outside parties wouldn't be accepted. It was policy. They said they had major contracts with advertising firms. Accepting ideas from others would be against their policy. Well it looks like the little guy sitting on the sidelines stays there. By the way the company is Budweiser, and let me say again they were very polite.

OK here is the deal. Of course Budweiser is going to say that. They are a billion dollar company. They have their own people and pay big dollars for advertising. They may field hundreds of calls a month about ideas from people. They have a pat answer.

Listen up. Quit being a little guy.

You make one friggin phone call and think your going to hit gold and get into the game ? NO!

Get off your ass! . Call some small and mid size off brand companys with your advertising idea.

Find out how to present it to them. Dont give them the idea until they express interest or are serious. If the idea is really good and you talk to the right people your in.

Make Budweiser King of Beers pay for blowing you off.

{I do kind of like that King of Beers thing hmmmm.}

Oh I forgot to mention that I am a marketing genius. If you wish me to do it for you I would be happy to. I dont think I would trust the King oF DoGs with anything like that though.

Now spill your guts and tell me the idea !

You really just have to get out there and get it done if you really believe in it. Make a professional looking proposal (powerpoint and a hard copy as well) and contact smaller advertising agencies to let them know. Often times many of those agencies will offer unpaid internships. Move to NY or LA where those agencies are so you can work there for free two days a week to make contacts. Chioma worked at one in Santa Monica called Non Fiction. They do documentaries and ads. You can find internships like that at Monstertrack.com or other entertainment based job websites.

Last thing I have to say is that every j-brone out there has a great idea for one product or another. The guys who make money off their idea and see it come to life are the ones who make the effort to get it done. Look at the "wassup" guys from Budweiser. They were struggling actors who made a short film and showed it to agents and managers. Once they got representation, they got Bud to pay them a lot of friggin' money to act in a series of ads. In fact, you could try what those guys did and get a camera and shoot a low budget version of your ad yourself to show to agents and managers after you move to NY or LA.

They are right, F Budweiser let me tell you a story about Xerox..

Xerox had this guy (Cant remember the name) come up to them and had an idea for a thing called a PALM pilot. Xerox laughed it off and said its a dumb idea, that will never work...

SO the guy said screw it I am going to market this somewhere else and make it happen.

Now the guy is a billionare and Xerox just got screwed bad.

Point is - Screw Bud, and MAKE IT HAPPEN!!

Here is a example. When my aunt was a teenager years ago we were all sitting around the dinner table.

My grandfather was a big golfer and he was talking about losing his balls in the rough and not being able to find them. So my aunt says why dont you paint the balls yellow or orange so you could see them better ? grandfather laughed it off saying....

Golf balls are white and white only!

My family could have been King of Spalding.

Morris,

I wish I had seen this earlier.

Try to contact your local beer maker's Marketing guy. He will be more willing to listen. Or take you idea to a Marketing/Ad firm and let them pitch it with you ask for a % of the sell.

You have to start small. Nike doesn't hire rookies (unless you are an athlete).

Does the idea need to be in the hands of a beer co.? If it could be implemented into a company offering vacations worldwide, contact Jack and give me a call.

Thanks Guys,
I made aphone call today and got the same answer " we have an advertising agency". Well someone must have listened to the guy with Silly Sand and Pet Rocks. I just can't find that guy.

Blazer, I'll try local marketing, problem is northern NY is not known for it's advertising but I'll try anyway.

Gator, This is geared for a beer company and only Budweiser.

Mr. Kane, It's not a sports and drinking ad, actually it's pretty simple and straight forward,

Nick, Thanks Bud, no pun intended I just might try something like that. A video would be really easy.

The idea is so simple that everyone will relate to it, it can be used with the Summer season approaching and adapted into the football season into the Fall. There is no loud bar scene just an identity with the product.
Scott, There might be a vice pres. spot open, oops my wife just claimed that!!
Really guys thanks and you never know!!

If you can find out who the contracted maketing company is for some of these small beer produsts and call them directly, then that may be your meal ticket. You can even make up a B.S. name for your company as abc marketing when you call.
