FLORIDA MARLINS +135 ? While the Marlins mindset right now has been rightfully brought to question, the fact remains that this looks like a generous price given tonight?s pitching matchup. Penny had been slow to come around from his injury, but he showed these Expos what he is capable of in his last start, as he held Montreal scoreless over 6 innings while allowing only 3 hits. He is now 2-1 with a 3.20 ERA vs. the Expos this season, allowing only 14 hits in 19.2 innings. Also, Penny has had a knack of pitching very well on artificial turf. Over the last 3 years, Penny is 4-2 with an outstanding 2.44 ERA and an excellent WHIP of 1.14 in 10 starts on the fake stuff. If that last start was an indication of things to come, look for Penny to be very solid for the rest of the season, as he has some of the best stuff on the Marlins staff. Yoshii has actually pitched well despite a 2-3 record, as he has a 3.67 ERA in 10 starts. However, he has not fared well against Florida, going 0-5 against the Marlins over the last 3 years, including 0-2 this season. Granted, he has been victimized by poor run support, but tonight figures to be more of the same, as the Expos figure to have a tough time scoring runs against Penny.

Only thing keeping me off this game is the fact he just faced the Expos 5 days ago, but then again so did Yoshi. Throw in the fact Penny pretty much has owned the Expos (7-1 Career vs them) plus he might be a little more motivated to get back at what his pitching coach said of him:

Arnsberg ripped Penny publicly last week, essentially calling him an uncoachable, out-of-shape thrower who can't hold runners on. Penny, who has been on the DL twice this year with arm problems, responded with six shutout innings against the Expos. I've got this one, too. Penny has a lifetime ERA of 1.81 vs. the Expos (as ndn said, he's 7-1), while Yoshii is 2-5 with a career ERA of 4.13 vs. the Marlins. That ERA isn't that bad, but if you look at the hitting stats for the Marlins batters, they're pretty good against Yoshii (and the Expos' stats really bad vs. Penny as you might imagine). If the Marlins can keep their heads in the game, this is a great underdog pick at +130. Good luck.
These teams like The Marlins , Indians, etc have mailed in their season. On the other hand they become dangerously unpredicatable because they do all sorts of things in games because they have nothing to lose.
Montreal is coming off a road trip. Maybe Marlins catch them with their pants down.

Montreal is a completely different team at home on the carpet. They struggle to score on the road but have little trouble scoring in their home park. I think the Spos extract some revenge today.
Sometimes it pays to get up in the morning!
My real MVP tonight, however, was Carl Pavano, who pitched 2.2 scoreless innings of relief after Penny was forced to leave with a blister.
