Not sure how well this guy was known outside of Kansas City or the NBA statistical scene. His statistical take on sports was always interesting even if sometimes flawed outside his area of expertise of basketball.

He had a website go live the day he committed suicide, his 60th birthday. To say the least this is beyond bizarre. On the website he describes his thought process and much more.

This is creepy and fascinating.

This is how I felt. Curious enough to start looking at some of the links in the website and then disgusted with the thought process after reading a few lines.

This has to be the most thought out suicide, he was planning it for over a year, 14 months I think I saw in one link. All the while carrying out his normal website that he did sports blogging on and interacting with his family.

Been a while since I've been caught off guard with true intellectual design that I hadn't explored.

I'm a 3rd of the way through the suicide portion. Will be an interesting read.

I will spend some time lying in bed, dissecting his move. He left without the Payoff. He put in all the time but doesn't get to see how it's received. He truly didn't care what other people think. People say, "I don't give a fuck..." but that is bullshit, they do give a fuck. Hell, most of the time they give two fucks and a holy shit. He didn't, at least on the website.

He did care about his legacy and if he hadn't gone about his death in this manner, I would have never heard/read about his life. We wouldn't be talking about him. He just won.

Then again I might just get hammered drunk tonight

He said that he had no reason for the suicide but I can tell he was very worried about going senile. Matter of fact, I think that was his reason.

I would argue the website and the uniqueness of the way he went out was his payoff. In his mind who cares how it is received, its that he did it (the suicide and website) the way he wanted. Statisticians are meticulously analytical and dive into every detail possible. This guy was that through and through.
Why not get drunk. I would also suggest levying some harsh 'bashing' before Jack starts passing out the demerits.

I finished reading the Why Not section a couple hours ago. Definitely plan on reading the rest.

We are saying the same thing but from an opposite spectrum. You are posting from his thought process. I was looking at it from the majority point of view.

Mine - People post stuff on MJ's then sit there refreshing waiting for a response. The payoff.

Yours/His - He posted something and "checked out" (eternally) never to see a response. He didn't need one.

That's very non human natured and really one of the more fascinating things I've read in a while

Poon, did you come across it on reddit? That's how I did earlier today. Read part of it until it crashed.

My brother shot me a note about it as he knew I read the guys' blog when he wrote for the KC Star.
