Hedgie: I would never profess to be a Marxist scholar, but I have read a lot of his work. And the quote you posted didn't ring a bell, so I looked it up.
And I have NO IDEA what you're talking about!!!
"From Each According to His Ability, To Each According to His Need" The Tramp's Speech from "Atlas Shrugged," by Ayn Rand
The major strength of Objectivism is its attack on the socialist concept, "from each according to his ability, to each according to his need." Rand correctly points out that such a philosophy kills ability and breeds need.
John Galt is a character in Ayn Rand's novel Atlas Shrugged (1957). Although he is not identified by name until the last third of the novel, he is the object of its often-repeated question "Who is John Galt?" and of the quest to discover the answer.
When the company owners decide to run the factory by the collectivist maxim, "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need", Galt refuses to work there any longer and abandons his motor.
So, I'm not entirely sure where this fits in with Marx. Perhaps you misread the term "maxim" and took it to mean/represent "Marxism."
At any rate, it appears to me that you're adamantly against a philosophy or ideology that you don't necessarily fully comprehend.
Just sayin'....
Peace!
