What is gallery demanding about hitting out of the rough all day?

I am a huge fan of Tiger's, but his play over the last 2 years has been far from overly impressive. I think at some point he will get back to his winning ways, but I don't think he will ever be dominant again. Since his unbelievable run, he changed the face of the game. It served as a wake-up call to many on the tour, so the sport owes a lot to Tiger (just look at the size of the purses now).

You can bookmark this thread and bring it back to my attention if he does dominate once again. My definition of dominant is more than 8 wins and at least 2 (probably 3) Majors in a given season.

hey toast

i got an idea for you:
go out and follow phil around for the last two majors this year. you have two things to look forward to

1. you might not have to break your weekend plans
2. if you are out there on the weekend following phil, chances are you'll be able to get back to the house for lunch and watch Tiger hoist the trophy. then you will hear what a gallery really sounds like when the tiger roars are out and the fist pumping begins.

ltw2--

here's an idea for you:
go out and follow tiger around for the last two majors this year. but be sure to bring a good bug spray because they can be a bitch in that tall stuff at the majors. if you can't be beside or behind him, you might want to wear a helmet, too. golf balls may be small, but they hurt like a bitch when one smacks you upside the head off of a good Nike driver!

this is, of course, is all in jest because I like both of these golfers. you're biased is humorous, though.

Again, Goosen had 11 one putts in 18 holes. THAT is what won this tournament. Mick birdied three holes in a row to get back into a tie. The bunker shot on 17 was excellent. He three whacked being aggressive. The first putt was as slick as putting on your driveway.

And let's see - Masters Victory and 2nd in the Open. I am sure the rest of the tour would want that "choking" this year. Do you want a choke job - How about the man that was trying to be the number one player in the world - Mr. Els. Then maybe you would have something to talk about. But to even that I would not listen.

Bottom line is this course beat the pi$$ out of the best golfers in the world and Phil hung tougher than all but one.

First Dawgball you crack me up! LMAO

I am not a Tiger hater either. But who has the higher average finish this year?

Phil is the Highest by far.

Damn he has a 1st and a second. He went after that putt on 17 because he had too!

This year though Phil and Ernie and Vijay are playing way better than Tiger.

Will that change by years end? Maybe

If I were to bet on who would finish higher in the last two majors I would take Phil over Tiger all day

So would I.

I guess bif and wood didn't notice that Tiger shot close to 80 on Sunday? What excuse do you have for him? He was out of it, so it didn't matter? Someone in the gallery cleared their throat in his backswing? Phil missed his chance and made no excuses, but Tiger was one of the cry babies yapping about the unfair greens.

I'll stick with the "over rated snob" over the "over priced has been" every time. Can Tiger pull his head out of his ass? Sure! Just not in the next few months.

Whatever he does at the British, Whistling Straits will have him wanting to quit golf after the PGA is over. (I predict Tiger misses the cut here, so you will be able to focus on Phil.)

Hilarious!! Anyone who says Phil choked isnt a golfer. Those greens were like putting on marble and one bad shot on 17 sealed it..and Goosen was SOLID....

Tiger.......isnt he about over at this point?? Greatest golfer for several years changes the swing that got him there??? Hes still great but doenst have anyone shaking in their shoes to face him on a Sunday...he'll be back but Phil has nearly as much talent and has fun to boot....

Whoever says Phil has as much talent as tiger is clearly not a golfer and if they are; probably hack their way around the course to the tune of a 28 handicap.

Tiger is the one that set the bar so high with these majors, and I never said Phil choked, thats just the way he plays, he doesnt come thru. plain and simple

all i know is that jack went thru the same winless streak that tiger is going thru right now, i agree Tiger has to find his swing and bury his ego and get together with Butch again. but he certainly has the tools to dominate, he is by no means showing the signs of aging, he has another 15 years, thats 60 majors to put a dent into the record before he begins to show signs of slowing down.

Toast, I just don't root for Mickleson he seems like a snob, just my opinion. I never said he was unprofessional.
If there was no Tiger golf ratings would be below NHL ratings, that's just a fact.

i would say that is an accurate statement about the ratings.....
tiger definately helped out the tour on that foot. daly, phil, norman and couples also draw some attention from the general public.

I used to think Mickelson was a stuck-up snob as well....Anyone else remember him in college, winning the PGA tour stop in Phoenix with his collar on his Izod shirt turned up?

But that was before I saw an interview with him on some show a few years back. Turns out he DOESN'T come from a background of wealth, but just a comfortable, San Diego middle class family. He came across in the interview I saw as a very friendly, down to earth kind of guy who just happens to be one of the most talented golfers on the planet today. And you have got to love the fact that he's a gambler--both on and off the course.

Speaking of Whistling Straits, YYZ, you attending the tourney? I'll be there Thurs-Sun, if you are going, let me know and I'll buy ya a Lemonade or two.....:)

My golf partner got tix, but I told him I didn't plan on going. I will probably hate myself for not seeing these guys in the flesh, but I just figure it will be a lot easier to watch it on the tube.

Anyone ever been to a live event?

Hey yyz, went to the 1992 PGA championship when it was in St. Louis. The guys are awesome. Followed John Daly for several holes. The man can really hit a golf ball. We were able to watch the fairway shots on both 17 and 18 with just a little walk thru the woods.
Some no-name guy I never heard of pulled a ball on 17 way into the woods close to the leader board on 18. We went over to watch, and this marshall thought the ball had to have come from #18 and he was trying to clear a path to the 18th green. Well this guy finally comes up and says he is going the the 17th green. A buddy of mine hollers out "Give him a break its the closest he will ever be to the leader board" the crowd started laughing and this poor bastard just wanted to get under a tree and hide.
Go if you get a chance, you don't often get a chance to see a course in that type of condition.

When I lived in Az.

Saw the last open at the the Poenix CC back in I believe 1986 - 1987? Just before it went to the TPC in Scottsdale.

I remember thinking they must have built the city around this course. There were times the players were playing along the fences with the cars going by on the streets. It was pretty wild.

Followed Calvin Peete. He was one of my Fav's. Here I'm a skinny white boy from Minnesota following Cal. Needless to say you could pick my out of the crowd. Watched him from the front bunker area hit a 155 yard shot onto the green into the hole.

Standing behind a very young Joey Sindilar on a over 320 yard par 4 tee box. He hit it about 6 inches from the hole.

It almost seemed like magic. To watch these guys hit the ball with such ez and seeing it fly as far and as straight as I had ever seen in my life. I knew right there that these guys had a gift that only a few people have.

Here in Minn we have the Burnett Senior Classic. Went down to that a few years back and ended up giving the bar stool next to me to Hale Irwins caddie.

Can't begin to tell you all the fun I had the next 2 nights at the Bunker hill bar and grill.

I know watching on tv is the way to really follow the whole tourney but if one gets a chance to go to a live event? I would do it. It's allways been a great experience for me.

Keep it in the short grass.

game on!

YYZ...I don't know how much of a golf fanatic you are, but if you are a golfer, go sit at the driving range and watch them hit balls. It is awesome to see how good they hit it every time. I saw Furyk hit 50-60 yard wedges one day and he probably landed a shot on top of a previous shot about 5 times. Its cool if you enjoy the game.

I've attended our local PGA Tour stop off and on the last 7 years--ever since I moved back to the Quad Cities. Followed John Daly around for 9 holes one year--it is simply amazing to watch that man hit a golf ball 300+ yards, then watch his deft touch around the greens.
This year the John Deere classic returns to its traditional week before the British Open, July 5th-11th. Haven't heard from my lawyer friend if his firm is renting a skybox off the 17th green; if so, I'll probably catch Friday and Saturday's round; if not and its too hot to do anything(which hasn't been a problem the last two weeks here in the Upper Midwest) I'll watch a bit on TV.

If you are a golfer/golf fan and you get a chance to see a live tourney sometime, do yourself a favor and go.
