Saw it tonight. For the first, oh, half-hour of the movie, I was completely disenchanted...especially after seeing that whole made-for-Skinemax scene from Zion.

After that, at least, the action picked up, but I was still saying to myself, "this is all babble and special effects."

Then came the architect scene...

I'm wondering if the Wachowskis ever planned to have a sequel, or if they sat down and said, "Gee, the Matrix was a hit, but it's hard to make a sequel...how can we throw the biggest f'ing plot twist possible into this movie?"

So what is real? Is the "real world" just another layer of the Matrix for those who wouldn't accept the program? Is THAT what they're getting at?

They wouldn't accept the Matrix...they kept trying to wake up from it, so they nested it inside an alternate reality and gave them a war and a "prophecy" to keep them busy. The Oracle, the Architect, the Keymaker...they're all part of the program. Eventually when "Zion" gets so big it starts to threaten the Matrix, they "purge" it and start over.

So what is Neo? Is he human? Is he a program? They call him an "anomaly"...

I think Keanu Reeves put it best..."Whoah!"

In the very end right after the nebanekezer gets destroyed by the sentinals who else thought that the other ship that pickes them up nukes them with an EMP rather than Neo using his "powers" to stop them. Some Geeks after the movie were talking about that and thought that neo did it, i just didn't have the heart to break it to them. But who knows, maby i could be wrong.

I need to watch the last part of that movie like 5-10 more times...

Nice to see you around bud!!!

I liked it, but I went in to the movie knowing that the dialogue was going to be tough. I will have to watch it a couple more times to digest exactly what is going on. The special effects were AWESOME, and that's really the point of the moive isn't it.

Not as good as the first one (story-wise), but it was worth the money to see in a theater.

MSNBC's Jeannette Walls reports not everyone's happy about the new "Matrix" sequel: "The villains in the flick are a pair of white-skinned, white-haired, red-eyed twins, and groups representing albinos say the movie unfairly stereotypes pigment-challenged individuals."

Silly movie producers. Don't they understand that only straight white men can be used as villains in movies?

Hoosier country
utterly disappointing!!!

long and drawn-out (albeit fantastic) special effects attempts to appease one visually in order to mask moronic plot and theme!!!

this movie sucked ass!!!

to all of you who did not understand the movie.
this is what happened. you really need to pay close attention.
nothing is real. everyone is a program. they are all part of a machine.
neo is essentially a reboot to a computer.
this can all be proven in the films dialogue.
obviously with the architecht, he is told there have been many neos, 6 in total.
we have already met one. monvigan or something like that. he holds the keymaker hostage. he has a group of ten guys and a girl. around the amount the aritect lets you rebuild society with.
also the girl tells them, when in the bathroom, that he used to be exactly like you. and then they kissed so she could feel that again. this means that in the future neo will get disenchanted that his role is over and he becomes cocky and useless in a sense. they also refered to monvigan as the extinct.
this also means that neo exited from the correct door because monvigan and his girlfriend are still alive.
the whole movie talks about choice. you must make the choice. but really the choice has already been made up for them. they are programmed to make the correct choice.
the conversation at the beginning of the movie with neo and the councillor.
the robots need us but we need the robots to survive. its a never ending cycle. so if they are all programs in a computer, and the computer crashes and burns out. the human on the outside can't use it but at the same time, everything running on the inside will die as well. but if the computer is able to reboot when things start to go haywire it saves the human and the programs and it is a continuous cycle.

there is more but my hands are tired.
hope this helps.

p.s. agent smith is a virus who can replicate himself.

the land of confusion
Interesting theories gordman.........so where does the survivor fit into the picture, at the end on the other table??? What is his part in Revolutions I wonder?

I saw it tonight and found the martial arts more 'overpowering' than the special effects. Just the right blend of everything I've come to expect of the makers. Certainly more complex than the first movie and will require multiple viewings to take it all in.

Too much for the older brigade to relate to me thinks!!!

the only thing that i can think of now is that everyone has to fight against the virus. agent smith.
agents smith was going crazy in the orignal. he took out his ear piece when yelling at morpheous telling him he couldn't stand the stink of him and hed like nothing better then to get out of his current existence.
smith wants to kill everyone, which breaksdown the computer, maybe neo in actuallity is an anti virus.
who knows?

what do you mean by survivor?

why do the machines need to keep destroying and rebuilding zion? if the people in zion are not plugged into the matrix what good are they.. ? why rebuild?

zion isn't real.
the people in the matrix need to run their everyday lives to make the machine run but when something interupts the system a neo like person or program is devised to reboot the computer when it reaches a critical mass.
its the way the program was built, because they have no choice. they need to reboot or 'reload' the program.
revolutions is number three, does neo stand up against this ver ending cycle but if he does everyone dies and the machine breaks down.
zion doesn't exist, the matrix doesn't exist. it's all a program to make a machine run smoothly.

Wow! Some pretty deep views on this subject. I know that this movie had unbelievable special effects and martial arts scenes that were awesome. This discussion could take many turns as far as each individuals views on "The Matrix". That is what makes the whole concept somewhat overwhelming. I guess we'll have to wait until november to find out th rest of the story..... To be concluded.....
