I have long been a fierce advocate at having multiple outs, playing reduced juice, taking advantage of bonuses, etc. As many folks can tell by the record on my page, I have been on quite a poor run the last year and a half or so while I was doing that.
A few months ago I sort of just threw in the towel and decided to just have money in one book, forget about reduced juice, bonuses, etc. and just try to win a few bets. My page may not relect it entirely but right now I feel quite good about my handicapping and my real life results are improving. I just wonder what is going on. I know logic tells me to shop for the best lines and take advantage of promotions but ever since I started just playing at the books I feel comfortable with rather than looking for "value", I have had better results. Maybe it is a short term thing. Who knows?
The reason I am posting this is because I thought maybe there might be some other folks out there who feel like they are good handicappers but they have been having poor results. Maybe it has to do with getting away from what got you into handicapping in the first place -- picking games -- and concentrating too much on things like bankroll, promotions and line shopping.
