Sure is amusing seeing coservatives trampling over each other to get to the front of line for another day of Obama bashing.

Today was a non-event, the general had to go. I was really surprised he thought so little of the troops with his actions. Obama made a mistake choosing hin, move on and start the withdrawal as soon as we can.

My quick response, not that it matters, is why Petraues? Is he really the only remaining qualified option? I am one who openly and often criticized him, and I won't back down from that now. I can't extend the criticism to Obama, not knowing personally the command situation of such an endeavor, but I do have a base problem with it. No doubt McChrystal had to go, and I think this sheds a light on the seriousness of this mission, and definitely the judgment of the man in charge there. And I do not agree with Petraues at face value, so I can have a problem with what Obama did here in naming the new face of the war. But I am ignorant as to the war situation there, and am not qualified to make a real comment, I suppose.

Damned if he did and damned if he didn't. Guys like you would say he was weak if he didn't fire his ass. Guys like you say he is weak because he did. Guys like you have cheerleaded this war since Bush, Chaney, and Rummy said 6 months tops,
Exactly.

This is really much ado about nothing because there never has been anything to be gained in Afghanistan and there never will be. When Obama campaigned and eventually took office, he knew American sentiment had turned against the war in Iraq. But he didn't want to appear soft and he knew that Afghanistan had become the forgotten war. He calculated that he could move the goal posts and refocus our military efforts in Afghanistan and appear tough on foreign policy in the process.

It didn't work. American sentiment has now turned against that war as well. And McChrystal's statements bear out that even our military leaders have turned against this war. The only thing left for Patreaus to accomplish in Afghanistan is a coherent exit strategy.

this is a good gig for petraues...he doesn`t have to "win" the "good war"(obama) ...

all he has to do is manage the withdrawal thats already been announced in 2011....

pretty cool idea...announcing your withdrawal before the war is over or decided....

that what i call strategy,baby!....:mj07:

So, just for reference, Wease - are you for staying in Afghanistan indefinitely? Are you for whatever it is that we are supposed to be doing there? What do you hope we accomplish there? I certainly understand killing Al-Qaida terrorists, who were there and not in Iraq, but at what total cost? And what will we continue to gain? I was for the original push there as described by Obama, with an end date, which makes perfect sense to me. What are YOU for in this country, moving forward?

?This is not a war of choice,? he said in a speech in August. ?This is a war of necessity. Those who attacked America on 9/11 are plotting to do so again. If left unchecked, the Taliban insurgency will mean an even larger safe haven from which al-Qaeda would plot to kill more Americans. So this is not only a war worth fighting. This is fundamental to the defense of our people.?

take a wild guess who this quote belongs to,colonel spongy...;)

See that is the difference with guys like you and me. Democrats and Republicans don't speak for me. Now u would be one of those gullible neo-con followers i was talking about.
