Philadelphia Eagles star Donovan McNabb says black quarterbacks face greater scrutiny than their white counterparts.
In an interview on HBO's "Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel" to be broadcast Tuesday, McNabb said black quarterbacks "have to do a little bit extra" because there are relatively few of them, adding "people didn't want us to play this position."

McNabb said if he passes for 300 yards and his team wins by a touchdown, critics will say, "Oh, he could have made this throw here. We would have scored more points if he would have done this."

Asked if white quarterbacks such as Peyton Manning and Carson Palmer are held to the same standards, McNabb replied: "Let me start by saying, I love those guys. But they don't get criticized as much as we do. They don't."

McNabb is one of six black starting quarterbacks in the NFL. The others are David Garrard of Jacksonville, Vince Young of Tennessee, Steve McNair of Baltimore, Jason Campbell of Washington and Tarvaris Jackson of Minnesota.

McNabb, a five-time Pro Bowl selection, is 9 1/2 months removed from major knee surgery and has missed 13 games the past two seasons because of injuries. On Monday night, he misfired on several throws and couldn't create big plays during the Eagles' 20-12 loss to Washington.

In 2003, conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh, briefly part of ESPN's pregame show, said he didn't think McNabb was as good as perceived.

"I think what we've had here is a little social concern in the NFL," Limbaugh said. "The media has been very desirous that a black quarterback do well."

He resigned from the show the next week.

Here is my favorite part of that story...

Asked if white quarterbacks such as Peyton Manning and Carson Palmer are held to the same standards, McNabb replied: "Let me start by saying, I love those guys. But they don't get criticized as much as we do. They don't."

Yeah, they don't get criticized as much as you do. Why? Maybe because they are better than you you moron..

I've been as big of a McNabb fan as anyone, really loved the guy at Syracuse and was thrilled when the Eagles got him, but last night turned me a bit.

I don't think any other QB in the NFL would have missed Curtis in the end zone so badly on that 3rd down play late.

If he's still hurt, then know you're limitations and don't play, and if he's healthy....well the Eagle offense is in a lot of trouble.

OVER-RATED.....

Looks like Rush Limbaugh was right (for once!).

Mcnabb sucks, that's the truth. Can't throw a touch pass to save his ass.

i'm not talking to you guys that already posted so don't get offended. i'm talking in general.

if you don't think black QB's and black coaches are under more scrutiny, you're wrong.

that's all i have to say about the subject.

Maybe the missed pass by fifty feet had something to do with the over and under which was at 38.5? Of course the next pass was the all to familiar 7 yard pass when it was 4th and eight. knocked a lot of teasars out to :mj07:

I mean, no offense, but it's pretty chicken shit to throw out a statement like that, then hide behind that's all I have to say about the subject.

That's all I have to say about that.

So. Cal
I can attest that white quarterbacks hardly get criticized, no matter what.

Sincerely,

The previous poster should have stopped at,

"Looks like Rush Limbaugh..."

McNabb isn't close to being in shape and is now getting caught from behind by D-line men.

Don't forget, it was TO who said he was out of shape and couldn't finish the Super Bowl.

He should just fade away and Philly should have kept Garcia. At least when he's flapping his mouth with this nonsense he isn't filling it with cheesesteaks.

actually you're right. it WAS chicken shit, i agree.

i KNOW the direction this thread is going. I have almost 10 years experience with these and I was trying to head it off at the pass instead of shutting it down now.

so instead of letting it go in the direstion i KNOW it's going I'm going to close it down now and dump it.

OKAY?

thanks :)
