I'm still relatively new to the program here...

Do you really think the "future service" angle is what is going on?

It seems that many feel Hellah is not one to do something like that.

ocelot,

Didn't mean to intimate that you or anyone else fit into a nice little box. I was a little hornery because it seemed obvious to me that hellah was scamming a new service and that his posts were bullcrap. That's why I kept writing "friend" in quotes.

Here are some intracacies of handicapping...

-Manage your money within pre-set rules and goals

-Don't play too much action

-Make sure the line you are betting has value (meaning it was not available at a significantly better number earlier in the day)

-Research any play before you bet it using proven techniques

-Constantly be on the lookout for new and changing proven techniques

I think if I followed my own rules consistently, I'd post a hell of a lot better record than I have posted the past 5 years that I have had my own page on the internet.

Scotty,

I quit bumping BTP because it was supposed to be a one-on-one contest, but too many people were joining looking for free pub.
...........................................................

Ben

They were looking for free pub?

OK so who wins ?

If you quit mid stream , then whoever was leading should at least get the prize. I think coinflipper is leading and should be dutifully rewarded the prize by default.

It seems only fair.

Looks like we have a winner.

Scott4USC never really got in the groove as the pro.
He was down almost 5 grand.

Nick got off to a good start but sputtered towards the end.

I'm sure Nick knows the intracacies of doing the right thing. He was most likely going to do the right thing all along. He knows what is good for all.

(his spelling also, he's much smarter when it comes to the written word than I);)

I dont know why I do this but I am interested in what you have to say most of the time.

The advice that holds most people back is the constantly being on the lookout for new and changing proven techniques.

You admit you are not following your own rules.

I doubt if any new technique you would run across would have very little likelihood of being proven to you.

I don't think you would allow it.

Your stuck in the same old techniques you have always used. And you are committed and determined to make it work even if it doesn't for five years or whatever.

Alot of people are one way handicappers.
They don't want to change. And its ok to be this way if you
are winning. If you lose consistantly then changes need to be made.

People get way too hung up on that value of line crap.
And your a big believer in that from what I have read.

Its obviously something to shop and get the best line. But you can't let the line force a play if your not ready. When its time to make the play then you look for value. Too much time can be wasted trying to get ten or twenty more bucks out of it.

If your looking for the best line then cap the games early enough so you dont have to think about it. I cant do that. Too many things can happen late to affect the outcome. I think the best plays are made the day of the game.

Hey Scott Mortensen,

It is a contest between me and the pro. It is still ongoing until 4/1 and exactly 100 picks have to be made. Some of the other people who registered at Best Bettor with "beatthepro" in their name were just looking for free pub when I posted the contest standings each week. That is why I decided to stop posting the standings.

My handicapping methods change frequently. I'll leave it at that because I am finally realizing that you can't help those that don't want to be helped.

Also, you need to take a basic writing class. Fourth graders know how to put together a piece of writing without breaking every sentance up into its own paragraph.

I almost forgot. Do you still think anyone in the beatthepro contest will bust + 3 K ?

my money is still on coinflipper. He seems to have the
best handicapping methods. He is beating you anyways.

On the course!
Free pub?

Nick, if this was truly something between the "pro" and you, you would have kept mum about it. You are the one who hyped it's inception, and touted for two weeks, what a great match-up this would be, yadda, yadda, yadda......Don King woulda been proud!

You wanted everyone to "tune in" and watch the great race. Well, this race, like the others in the past, and to come, is falling short.

You say you stopped posting the results because some freeloaders posted along side of you? They did it for "pub"? Come on. The smart money is on you not posting because this is turning into another failed attempt at proving your worth to the forum. The smart money says that if you were up a dime or two, you would still be posting, freeloaders and all. The "steam move" of the day says that if you wanted to, you could just post the records of the people you invited to play. (I believe there were 4 originally, even though you only counted your match between "pro" and yourself.)

I think that the harder you try, "the behinder you get". You are losing face, and credibility, at a rapid rate around here. Your posts appear to be grasping at handicapping straws as of late, while the wolves slowly rip and tear at your hide. Circle the wagons, and come up for air, already.

Forget the cheesy contests. Forget the need to find "a method that works". Forget about trying to be number one. Forget about trying to be liked based on your "skills" as a capper.

Take a week or two off, clean out your mellon, and get back to the basics........Handicap a couple of winners a week. Go back to the "kindergarten of capping", and forget about getting a PhD. Do the simple shit! You don't need quantum physics, a Cray computer, and a 5% ROI. You need to find a weakness in a line. Find a team that has an edge. Simplify!

If you want to fuk the girl next door, you can leave your house, make a left, and knock on her door. Or, you can leave your house, make a right, and think about a million reasons not to "make your move", while you walk around the block to get there!

Now, take some R&R, and come back in a couple of weeks.

Oh, and here's one of those "simplified" tips from a guy who aint so good at winning:

If you like a dog of 4 points or less in basketball, take the ML instead.

This alone will save you hundreds over a season.;)

Well Nick,

I have no argument with your rules for handicapping. They all make sense to me. Even good handicappers are going to have bad runs.

Seems some here have some grudges against you. Hey guys, life is too short. Let's all remember we are on the same side against "THE MAN". I for one don't want to waste anymore negative energy.

Peace dudes.

IO,

Yes, that's exactly what's going on.

That's true that many feel that Hellah is not one to do that. I guess 'many' will find out otherwise, if they haven't already.

To each their own, but starting out a service based on a goofy story(lie) like that and using mj's to promote it doesn't exactly reek of integrity. Hopefully he makes a million. Looks like he has a lot of followers that will be willing to pay him for his expertise.

Kosar if that's true. Then I will stop sending my inside tips to him by email. Not if he's going to make money off them.

Scotty,

Yeah, you're gonna get that book published from *Atlanta*, huh? I don't write books, anyway. Movies are a higher art of storytelling, so that's what I write. My advice to you is to ask yourself which of the two of us has been paid for his writing and for evaluating the writing of others.

yyz,

I did tout the contest before it started, but it was touted as a one-on-one matchup. We have a bet that is still ongoing based on the contest. I didn't mind when Antonio & Lafe Merchant signed up to try to match up with the pro and me. My problem came when people who obviously had no interest in serious handicapping started signing up. Then it became blatant attention-whoring.

Q: Which party took Social Security from an independent fund and
put it in the general fund so that Congress could spend it?

A: It was Lyndon Johnson and the Democratic-controlled House and Senate.

Q: Which party put a tax on Social Security?
A: The Democratic party.

Q: Which party increased the tax on Social Security
A: The Democratic Party with Al Gore casting the deciding vote.

Q: Which party decided to give money to immigrants?
A: That's right, immigrants moved into this country and at 65
got SSI Social Security. The Democratic Party gave that to them although they never paid a dime into it.

Then, after doing all this, the Democrats turn around and tell
you the Republicans want to take your Social Security.

And the worst part about it is, people believe it,don't they DJV???

Yeah this would be a great time to start a service. After Friday there will be about less than 50 games left in college hoops and the nba season is already winding down.

Hey kosar, gentleman's bet for you....Hellah opens a service, public apology from me for being a defender of his. If he doesn't, you admit you were wrong (if your ego will permit it). You set the timeframe in which this service will open. Deal?

RRC,

Why don't you just ask him? Isn't that the easiest thing to do? Ask him publically or privately, whatever works for you. Then if you want to, you can report back. I don't know if he'll answer you, but I would be quite surprised if he denies it.

I think because I am in Atlanta makes no differance. You ever
heard of federal express ?

Screenwriting is a tough nut to crack. Thousands of them
being written and sub-mitted. Hope you got some big time
connections or forget about it.

If you never heard of The Writers Script Network you are
missing out. They have a web site where you can submit work.

When I ask myself which of the two of us has been paid for his
writing and evaluating the writing of others -

My answer to that would be me and me.

Any more questions ?
