Loop,

I'm not sure if you are referring to me or not with regards to the less than 10% (or 6.7% or whatever number) of gross profits that OB/GYN spend on malpractice insurance a year. To be honest I have no idea what malpractice premiums are for Ob/GYN on a yearly basis and that was not the point of my earlier reply,(despite my wife practicing as OB/GYN for a year before leaving and entering a more lucrative specialty for largely this reason...OK and lifestyle too :) I could only tell you what I pay..and I ain't birthin no babies. My point was that while your golf buddy apparently has a lucrative practice he is NOT the norm and the average OB/GYN makes 160-200,000/yr, which the referenced article quoted 200,000 yr I believe. If the average OB/GYN pays 10-20,000 (5-10%) and your buddy pays 40-60,000/year in malpractice fine. The point I was making was that most physicians dont make 500,000/yr and I feel that 12 years of higher education and 80-100 work weeks justify 150-200,000 salaries.

Yours in pointless banter,

That's why you go to dental school. I still get to help people, work with my hands, don't have to deal with HMOs or other managed health care too much, still have time to raise a family and not be on call all the time, and I don't have to worry about too much malpractice insurance. :D

That's why you go pediatric...when kids are that young, it's pretty hard for their mouths to get nasty (believe it or not, though, it still can)
