Why don't we. . . .as a forum, give Nebraska fans a break for the next couple of years. If Mr. Poon or any other Husker wants to fondly remember how great Tommy Frazier was or how tough Cal and Minnesota were in the 90's or what a great rivalry Oklahoma v. Nebraska was, then let them have that. It's the least we can do.

It does remain open season on Wolverines and Trojans, though. :0008

If my memory serves me correctly, isn't this sort of what Nebraska did for years back in the 80's? Play nobody and weasel there way into the Orange Bowl every year. Pretty smart, but very cowardly to say the least. Laugh all the way to the bank....

Yea meant 90's or whenever, it just seemed like they played one decent team or two every year and played in the Orange Bowl. I didn't go back to find schedules or dates, just threw it out there and it seems Texas in the modern day swing of things now will be in a BCS game every year. I will go back to sleep now.

so much misinformation here.

http://sportsbybrooks.com/nebraska-colorado-big-12-exit-fees-dont-exist-28545

there's no buyout money yet (they can withhold money from CU and NU though).

there's nothing to say UT,OU,TAMU get this money.

"Texas A&M, one of the three schools that stands to gain more money under a proposal presented by Iowa State, has not decided whether to accept a greater share, a spokesman said.

Texas has said it will decline a larger share, while Oklahoma officials have not made their position clear "

Texas is also looking to beef up an already good upcoming non-conference schedule which has the likes of OleMiss, Cal, Minnesota, BYU, and UCLA on tap.

Texas wanted Wisky on the schedule last year, but Wisky was too scared to play and say NO.

Utah and Arkansas also backed out of playing Texas after initially agreeing to it

---

the big12 is better off without Colorado who brought nothing to the table and didnt win much of anything and didnt bother to even field some of the smaller sports like baseball

Nebraska had one really good year in football (last year) but AFAIK never played in a bcs bowl and never won the big12 championship. Texas dominated most of the time on the football field too.

NU has some good baseball and women's volleyball but didnt bring much else to the table.

----

the remaining big12 (-2) teams will make more money because the TV money remains the same but only 10 teams have to share it instead of 12

everyone's non-conference schedule improves because now the big12 goes to a round-robin schedule. so instead of Texas facing FAU they face IowaSt. instead of TexasTech facing Winona St, they face Mizzou. instead of TAMU playing Sam Houston St, they play KState.

---
As Texas was ready to jump to the pac10, TAMU wanted to go to the SEC and Texas didnt want to split the 2 teams up.

As well, at the last minute, the Pac10 wanted to switch OSU with KU and Texas said NO and didnt like the last minute switcheroo the Pac10 was playing

Texas wanted their own network and they can only have that happen if they stay in the Big12. that was a big reason they stayed and I cant blame them

Interesting takes, obviously opinions are going to differ. Word out of the Pac 10 was that Texas was the one doing the last minute changes by trying to negotiate differences in the television arrangements.

Though it isn?t going to be decisive, one way or the other, until future schedules are done I?m not buying the argument that the remaining Big XII teams? non-conference schedules will improve. Yes the round robin will in theory improve overall schedule strength, due to ensuring you aren?t missing a good team in a season, a better SOS isn?t guaranteed. First due to the recent strength of the conference in the South, making sure you don?t miss Iowa State or Kansas State may not due that much for your SOS. Also it isn?t hard to fathom schools taking out one of their tougher non-conference games, as opposed to the likes of Sam Houston listed, since they believe their conference slate will be enough of a SOS buoy. Seems to me the phrase ?but we play every one of our conference teams? is being prepped for future national title debates. Kansas State is already one school that is wavering on non-conference games against other BCS schools, but that shouldn?t be much of a surprise with Bill Snyder back at the helm.

Main reason Colorado (as well as other BCS schools like Iowa State and Wiscy) doesn?t field a baseball team is due to Title IX.

FWIW Nebraska won two Big XII championships in the 14 years the conference has been around. They have lost three times in the conference title game. The Huskers five appearances in the title game is tied with Texas for second to Oklahoma?s seven appearances. In regards to the BCS, Nebraska has appeared in 2 such bowl games in the 12 years the Bowl Championship Series has been around. I?m not stating Nebraska?s football program has been near elite in this timeframe, but they are more than just one good year I would say.

As for Nebraska not bringing much else to the table in terms of sports, best evaluation would be the Directors? Cup standings. For the current year the Huskers are 15th with only A&M and Oklahoma ahead of them from the conference. When the final standings are done, I?m sure Texas will be higher due to baseball.

Looking back at the prior 13 completed years (to do an evaluation since the Big XII has been in existence), Nebraska has averaged 19th in the national ranking. The Longhorns have finished higher than the Huskers 9 times in that span. Only three other schools finished higher than Nebraska in any given year. Those are Oklahoma (7 times), A&M (5 times) and Colorado (once). Not stating Nebraska has been the best in the conference athletically, however, it is obvious they bring quite a bit more to the table than other schools in the conference.
