Take it from someone who has been doing this for decades.......There are very few circumstances where buying points on a steady basis is beneficial. Perhaps it will win you a game or two and you feel just great about it & your great handicapping skills & knowledge, but in the long run, you will come up very short, without a question. I rank it right below a tease as a sucker bet.

Exceptions: The already mentioned foots off of 3, 7 or maybe 10. Baseball, 1/2 run off of the key 9 or maybe 7,........... that's it. The only time I would ever do it in baskets is perhaps if I was giving minus 1.5 and I felt like my team was going to be a definite winner.......and I was up some $ for the day or season & I wanted to only spot 1 for the game to protect against losing (win by 1 = a push, no loss).

Another terible lay in my view............4 point basketball teasers. Now, you can get good value sometimes in a PRO (note, PRO)football tease when the spread is 6, 6.5( the best value) or 7. But to have to win two basketball games for a measly 4 points per game is downright obnoxious in my book. Just too many points scored in the game. Do the math for yourself..........4 points over the much higher projected basketball score vs. 6 in football where your team is probably gonna only score in the 30's or 40's. If they score in the 50's, you shouldn't need the extra 6 anyway. The math isn't even close ! And, in foots, there ARE key numbers.............there are none in baskets.
I also don't like to cross 0 in a football tease. In a very rare situation, +3 to minus 3 or vice versa. Never any other numbers.
Believe it or not, I saw someone play a foot tease this season to go from -3.5 to +2.5 because he wanted to get points !! Incredibly stupid............take some common sense classes. Shoot, at +2.5, a lotta guys start to look at the money line at +120 or so & up and sacrifice getting the paltry points anyway.

Good points for the inexperienced from this thread. Read & learn now, the easy way, or ignore & learn (or never learn) later.

Thanks, Arrow. (Cappers, tho, not capers) :)

Not going to read all of this but read 2 people who I enjoy their info and 1 arrow is right the biggest waste of cash is buying points in hoops and i also agree with gman in the teaser, now in nfl late in the year i will play some well thought out teasers 2 teams only and they win and have done this for over 8 years late in the year and it has won me good money where the games did not cover the straight up way and this is only done by me last 1/4 of the year but never buy points or play 2 team teasers in hoops your blowing your money, yes you might hit a few but ask any book director about it out here and they will tell you if you know them good how much cash the bring in extra on people buying points and playing teasers and these 2 explained it quite well.

I see the teasers in hoops all the time out here and to make it worse these are never 2 team teasers which any thing more then that in a fb teaser or parlay your just throwing your money away, but see guys playing 4-5 team teasers for 25 to 50 bucks and will have like 5 and 6 of these things going at once , the books love it. your just wasting money big time and this is not just IMO , if you live here and are in good with a book director ask him or her , if your not in good with them don't ask because they will give you the spin on it trying to get you to play them. But those 2 are very good points and i don't care what someone tells you, you are not going to make long term money doing this . but see it all the time like i said and the parlays not even teasers book love that is why you see these fulls playing cards of 6-8 teams and putting 20-50 on the card and they will play more then one, only parlay that you can really do and win and know lot of big time people and 1 group out here who does this in fb for limits and have hurt some books is 4 team round robins in football with 6 teams, doing 2's and 3's mixing up with 6 teams, so you have a good different number of 2 and 3 team parlays for limits and they can put a dent in a book they only do it in college football and send their runners to chain books and hit all at once, like a Leroy's, stations, az charlies and coast chains. Got to the point last year were lot of books would not take 2 team parlays which messed up their game plan. but never see them do it in any other sport but ncaa fb. hoops your just throwing money away and in any sport anything over a 2 team parlay your throwing your money away, baseball you can do good by using a key team and running them with 4 or 5 different teams on 2's but straight plays are the way to make money ,someone said like buying insurance in black jack they hit the nail right on the head biggest waste of money in black jack there is but yet people do it all the time. great post arrow and gman very good point and who ever said the insurance in black jack also great point. You can see all this each and every day out here and they are 20-50 buck players same guys doing the same shit and bitching every day and will sit in the book all day every day hating life, they rank up their with poker players out here as the most bitchiest misserable people you can find in a casino and are their each and every day for the whole day and night, they all hang together and have stacks of books and sheets with notes that would choke a small college library. i laugh my ass off when i see a guy walk in to the book shirt half untucked glasses down on his nose needs a shave and has a stack of papers and notes that are bigger then nasa has for a space shuttle launch, just get behind this guy and play against what he does and you will win money i would say 65% of the time with out doing one bit of work.

As an UNO expert I will tell you always save your "draw two" cards and your "reverse" cards until the very end!

Oh yeah and never buy points in BB

On the course!
Good point, Gfool!

I went round and round last year with someone here, (Don't remember who) over his buying of points.

He was often laying between -125 to -150 for extra points. I would always get a "See! It paid off!" whenever he caught one. My point was, look how few games hit in that spot!

That juice will wipe you out in a heartbeat! I often thought "giving back" the extra points should be a money maker, but it would appear the books don't offer that option.........I wonder why? ;)

..........................................................

Well this is only a sampling of 10 ppl that responded. It means nothing.

One out of ten plays in basketball I buy points.
And its usually on a bigger play I do it.

I don't bet 2 thousand a game and not sure why how much I bet is important.

If you would have bought 2 points in that Wyoming game, since you got it early at 6,
you might still have the 2 grand.
