This CD is god awful ... I've been a Metallica fan since about 1983/84 when I first heard Fade To Black from Ride the Lightning. I didn't care for Load and especially Reload as they became too light and mainstream but this CD is the most disappointing release I have ever purchased. Unlistenable in my opinion. I wouldn't even burn a copy.

They sound like a bad garage band ... and the music seems forced ... like they were trying to capture the magic of their early GREAT stuff but failed miserably.

Anyone else buy this yet?

WOW I did hear a copy of this, and holy shit this is the worst I have ever heard.

Hetfield sounds sooooo bad and the production is very very poor, and on top of that the songs just suck!!

Your right they are tring to revive what they once were, but they will never do that, they are through!!

long time fan

long time fan

This has to be the biggest disappoinment for them, all this waiting for this. Bought it yesterday heard it twice i hate it. I'm so fawking pissed, james should of never gone to rehab. What the hell are they thinking with this crap. I liked Load but this is just plain nonsense. I remember seeing them at the hollywood paladium in 85 they kicked ass. Saw them with ozzy great show. I seriously need to have a talk with them have to straightened out this shit. I guess they're getting old, have their families to think about. Miss the old tallica the drinking days. :drinky:

yikes!! I have it, but I haven't listened yet. Even if it does suck, the last time I saw them, they played no new stuff, just the Black Album and back. I'll post my critique when I listen.

"...Quo fas et gloria ducunt..."
think it might be good to do a track by track analysis:

Frantic

St. Anger

Some Kind of Monster

Dirty Window

Invisible Kid

My World

Shoot Me Again

Sweet Amber

Unnamed Feeling

Purify

All Within My Hands

just finished downloading the whole album, will have thoughts on each track in a bit.

:

ok, i've noticed that some of the songs i've downloaded off kazaa are not the songs that i put into the search.....so these may not be the songs from the St.Anger album.....but i'm gonna review anyways.

weird.

so anyways, just like to start off saying when i first saw the adverts for this album on TV, the first thing that caught me was the fawking wikkid cover of the album....and the interesting title of the album...St. Anger.

I feel that most metallica fans of two generations:

You're either pre or post 1991 in terms of fanaticism.

Myself? I'm from BOTH generations...

In regards to this song....

I thought the opening guitar riff was quite kewl and dark....but Hetfield's vocal sound has much to be desired....not enough growling.....? Lars doesn't do much but your basic drumming here, nothing too impressive....Rob on bass is not too earth shattering as well.....but i feel Kirk was always the glue that bound the band together with his wikkid guitar playing.....

I actually liked this song.

Yeah music is ok on some but Hetfield kills all the songs, his voice is horrible!

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think its that bad. The only thing lacking is the production and drum mix. Sounds like they spent about $100 to have it done. Maybe they were looking for a raw sound, and if so they got it. After the third time listening to it you almost block out the weak drum tones. If this was the sound Bob Rock was looking for from them, he might not be around next time. Add that to the fact he appears really weak and standard on the bass lines.

Could you imagine the music they would be putting out if cliff was still around. His death really hurt me and a whole lot of thier fans. I wish jason could of stuck around a lot longer. The drums are very weak on this album and the bass lines don't jump out at you. As for kirk he always plays that guitar with great intensity! He still and always be one of my fav guitarists. They should of put a better effort with this. They had plenty of time to do so. But you know they're METTALICA ,they're still my favorite. All the best headbanging, moshing and going just fawking crazy music you could listen to! Keep rocking you son of a bitches. :hail
