- Quarterback Steven Threet is leaving the University of Michigan.

Threet is releasing the following statement today: ?I have decided to transfer from the University of Michigan. I have requested and received my release. I do not yet know where I will continue my collegiate career, and will have no further comment until that decision has been reached.?

Threet, a redshirt freshman in 2008, was Michigan?s starting quarterback for most of the season. He nearly guided Michigan to a comeback win over Utah in the opener, and performed strongly in Michigan?s turnover-filled loss at Notre Dame.

Threet led the Wolverines to a comeback home win over Wisconsin, but sat out the end of the season with injuries. He did not make the trip to Ohio State after suffering a concussion and an arm injury late in the campaign.

He wound up performing in 11 games, completing 102 of 200 passes (51.0 percent) for 1,105 yards with nine touchdowns and seven interceptions. He also rushed for 201 yards and two touchdowns on 76 carries.

Threet was expected to compete against redshirt sophomore Nick Sheridan and true freshmen Tate Forcier and Denard Robinson for the starting quarterback job in 2009.

Going to hurt from a depth standpoint, but Forcier was starting from day one no matter what Threet did. Kid has heart but was inaccurate and slow. Not exactly what one looks for in a spread QB.
