Mike Tice wins $100,796.20 betting the ponies

Former Bears offensive coordinator hit the Pick 6 at Del Mar on Thursday.

Former Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Mike Tice seems to be enjoying his first year away from the National Football League since 1994.

On Thursday, Tice hit the Pick 6 at Del Mar Surfside Race Place in Southern California and cashed in for $100,796.20, according to Vince Bruun, the Director of Media Relations at Emerald Downs in Auburn, Washington .. Tice's winning ticket cost a total of $128.

Per Bruun, Tice was the only bettor to hit the Pick 6 at Del Mar on Thursday. In addition, the front page of the Del Mar website confirms that the Pick 6 paid off on Thursday for just over $100,000.

The Pick 6 is a wagering option offered at racetracks in which bettors must select the winning horse in six consecutive races. Thursday?s Pick 6 at Del Mar began with the third race and ended with the eighth.

Below are Tice?s winners. Take note of the winning horse in Race 4.

Race 3: Brilliant Melody
Race 4: Tebowing
Race 5: Diamond Bachelor
Race 6: Joyce and Me
Race 7: Dancingtothestars
Race 8: Bardy

In the USA you have to pay Tax on that, so he really won 2 dollars.

But hey, you get free healthcare.

That and no tax on any gambling winnings (sports gambling, lottery, casino, horse race, bingo, whatever):00hour

Mike Tice should have placed the same bet in Canada....he would have made way more money (no tax):SIB

Just sayin'

Placing a bet in Canada means you are no longer a US citizen?

If he won that money in Canada he'd pay zero tax on it.

Pretty sure if you win Pick 6 at Del Mar and place the bet at a Canadian Race Track you keep your US citizenship.

I could be wrong, but I think as an American citizen you would still pay income tax on that money regardless of where you won it.

My ex was a US citizen and won 3500 bucks in the lottery and she didn't pay any tax to US gov't.

Also a friend of mine (US Citizen) won 9 grand on a slot machine and payed zero tax to US gov't.

I don't think if you are a US citizen and win money in Canada you have to pay any tax. The money was won in Canada so why would US Gov't get any money?

I know for a fact that if you are a US Citizen you pay nothing to Canadian Gov't on gambling winnings. So why would you have to pay the US Gov't if the money was won in Canada:shrug:

Also there are a ton of Americans that cross the border and bet on sports and play in the Casino's. I have never heard any of them say they pay the US Gov't on anything they win in Canada.

But hey I guess the IRS can do anything they want. But if I was a US citizen and I won money legally in Canada I'd be like "good luck getting that money from me".

I highly doubt that is the case though, but I guess it is possible.

You're exactly right. Let me give you an example, if a singer or boxer gets paid from gigs all over the U.S. they have to pay federal on all of that. One other thing, if they made the money in another state they have to pay that states income tax, not the state where they reside.

As far as I know, the same goes for gambling.

I think there is some similar laws in regards to international, but I'm not sure. I'm sure some people might know more on the subject.

A US citizen must pay tax on all income, whether legally or illegally gained, regardless of where this income is earned.

it must be reported on the US income tax return for that year. this return must be filed if any income has been earned.

it's pretty clear really.

It is also why many wealthy americans choose to give up their US citizenship and live abroad.
