SOUTH EL MONTE, California (AP) -- Explosives experts defused a homemade bomb found in the backseat of a car early Friday after the driver was stopped for speeding in this eastern Los Angeles suburb, authorities said.

The bomb was defused safely, but several industrial businesses in the area were evacuated and a main boulevard was closed for more than three hours.

After the driver was pulled over around 5 a.m., deputies "observed a package in the rear of the vehicle with wires coming out of it," Los Angeles County Sheriff's Sgt. Don Manumaleuna said.

The sheriff's arson-explosives detail described the package as an "improvised explosive device," Manumaleuna said.

The driver, whose identity was not immediately released, was being held for questioning....

another scary one....

MO Trucking Co. in FBI Sights...it appears a bunch of middle eastern types are learning to drive semi-trucks in missouri......

WEST PLAINS, MO (AP) -- Federal agents are investigation a southwest Missouri trucking school after reports of a high number of people taking drivers license tests who are of middle eastern decent. Those reports triggered an FBI investigation into South Central Career Center's truck training program in West Plains. The agency is looking into the training and its third-party licensing program. After troopers confiscated paperwork, the school stopped all testing.....

i think we`ll hear alot more on this.....i heard the company owner was being bribed to help these guys get trucking licenses....it`s supposedly not an area thats rife with middle eastern folks....

nothing concrete...but suspicious...reminiscent of the flight school situation prior to 9/11.....

nuclear plant?...sky scrapers?...stadiums?....

Darling of the Democrats?

Sen. Russ Feingold topped the list of Democratic candidates in the presidential straw poll on the liberal Web log "Daily Kos" ? no surprise, given Feingold's proposal to formally censure President Bush.

More surprising, however, was the approval rating of House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi. Just 19 percent said they approve of Pelosi ? compared with 50 percent for Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid, and a whopping 84 percent for Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean.

Several Kos readers say they don't like Pelosi because she isn't outspoken enough for liberal causes and has refused to support Feingold's censure motion. Reid hasn't either, but still does better among liberal blog readers.
