Happened over 50 years ago in the 1962 AFL Championship...

[h=2]?We?ll Kick to the Clock?[edit][/h]In that 1962 AFL Championship Game, Haynes made what could have been a costly error at the start of overtime. Coach Stram, aware of the strong winds at Jeppesen Stadium, instructed Haynes, should the Texans win the coin toss, to choose the end of the field facing the stadium clock, which would give the Texans the wind at their backs.
The Texans won the coin toss. Haynes, assuming that when the Texans elected which goal to defend, the Oilers would elect to receive the kickoff (thereby gaining first possession of the ball), told the referee, "We'll kick to the clock." However, by starting with the words "We'll kick," Haynes had made the election for the Texans to kick off, allowing the Oilers, not the Texans, to choose which goal to defend. The Texans saved Haynes from embarrassment by not allowing the Oilers to score in that first overtime, then won the game on Tommy Brooker's field goal 2 minutes and 54 seconds into the second overtime (after the teams had switched ends).

It wasn't Slater, it was "The Genius".

After the Jets? 26-20 win, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was asked about the decision to kick.

?We thought that was the best thing to do,? Belichick said in the postgame press conference. ?There wasn?t any confusion.?:mj07:

Doubt he is covering for Slater....

Slater also addressed the coin toss in his postgame remarks, noting that he double-checked the decision to kick.

?Obviously, as a player you ask three or four times, just to double check, because you want to make sure you get it right,? Slater said. ?So we go out there, we won the toss. We chose to kick off off, just like coach instrusted us to. And the only confusion was whether or not we got to choose which direction we got to kick the ball.?

Belidope is a flippant arrogant A-Hole. I've watched this prick for decades and he's always trying to be cute and "mysterious" in order to promote the "genius" label he's been given. He does the same thing in his drafts, picking obscure players in high rounds which almost never work out. IMO when Brady retires you'll see how much of a "genius" he really is

Cant take anything away from the Pats. As far as their wins with Belichick. But that was funny. I was on the Jets. Not my pick either. Just seeing the Jets march down and score was nice. I felt I was doomed in OT. Brady, Belichick, in OT, I hate to be on the other side. Should be an interesting post season. Good luck to all.
