Colorado +115:

Not gonna get to all my angles in this one, but I will mention a couple things that are weighing pretty heavily for me in this game.

I still feel the Giants might not be out of their offensive slump. The Giants did score 8 runs yesterday, but it was also a case of a favorable run scoring Ump in that one, plus one game isn't a good indicator. If you look at the 11 games prior to yesterday's, the Giants haven't scored more than 3 runs in any of them! I'm not saying they won't score any, but I think the line on Colorado is a bargain considering the starting pitching.

The "Coors factor" actually is weighing in my decision in this one. The Rockies are starting Aaron Cook who you probably never heard of and has only made 4 appearances in the Majors..all in relief, but I did check his minor league numbers and they were pretty good:

Triple-A Colorado Springs: 4-2, 2.82 ERA in 51 innings
Double-A Carolina: 7-2 1.42 ERA in 95 innings

Now here is where the "Coors Factor" figures in: Cook pitched in Colorado Springs which is actually higher altitude than the Coors field altitude which is in Denver. This is a big reason these pitchers that Colorado calls up, really seem not to be affected too much from playing in Coors field.....IT'S ACTUALLY MORE FORGIVING!. But really, the real key is the fact that in Colorado Springs, Cook only gave up 1 home run in 51 total innings and in Carolina, he only gave up 4 home runs in 95 innings  That's 5 total home runs in 146 innings in the minors and this will only help his effectiveness at Coors today....less fly balls hit in the light air the better!

Rueter on the other hand will have some problems today. Rueter has always had a pretty respectable ERA over the years and this year is no different with a 3.36 ERA. However, I dug up all the games he's pitched at Coors field since 1998 and they are just horrific:

Going back through 1998, Rueter has made 8 starts at Coors field and has pitched a total of 40.2 innings, giving up 58 hits and 34 Earned Runs while walking 14 and striking out only 12. This comes out to a 7.62 ERA at Coors

Rueter does get his share of ground ball outs as well, but there's a big difference here.....Rueter is a pitcher that rarely strikes out batters (only 57 K's in 163 innings this season) and that means the ball is always in play which can mean disaster for him especially in a roomy hitters park like Coors ;)

I touched on the biggest angle on this one, but will mention a negative in this one and that is the bullpens. The Colorado pen has been struggling a bit and will see some action today, but I expect the San Fran pen to see action as well, and even though the San Fran bullpen pitcher's ERAs are better, you gotta remember those numbers aren't from Coors plus the majority of their games are in a pitchers park.

Lot's of other things figuring in my decision on this one, but wanted to mention what was weighing most in my decision.

UNDER 9.5 CLEVELAND:

This play is based strickly on situational stuff and some hidden numbers. No ump info on this game yet, but will not be around to see who it will be and I feel it's a strong enough play here so I'm going with it.

Just gonna mention a little on Ricardo Rodriguez who's starting for the Tribe today.

Don't know if anyone watched his major league debut, but the numbers on his 1st start are very deceiving. He did allow 6 Runs in just 5.2 innings, but he pitched much better than that.....he just mad a couple of mistake pitches, which a team like Oakland seems to always take advantage of.

This is Detroit not Oakland and if you seen him pitch, you seen this guy isn't afraid to pitch inside at all! He actually worked some with Pedro Martinez and his brother Ramon Martinez and it looks like he's gonna be a good one. In the minors, he was also a guy that didn't like to walk batters (much like the good ones out there) and would come right at ya when he got a hitter down in the count....didn't like to mess around with trying for a strikeout even though the guy could really ring up the K's if he wanted to.....we'll see if this continues in the Majors.

Can just see the guy having an easy time with this Detroit team. Detroit is dead last in walks, on base %, runs, etc.......you see where I'm coming from here?

Sparks is going for Detroit and ever since that talk with Wakefield back in Boston about 6 weeks ago, he's been tough. He hasn't allowed more than 4 runs in a start for 8 straight starts now and I don't see him getting roughed up in this one either...especially with the youngsters getting playing time for Cleveland currently.

No time to get to all my angles for this one, but I do expect to see it stay Under the total of 9.5

Didn't get to all my other factors, but If anyone has any questions on either game, please post and I'll be back on later afternoon.

Thanks for the writups. I was actually going to go with SF, but your article took me off, and made the game a pass for me. The reason, recent Colo losses to the Mets. GL today and keep up the good work, it is much appreciated and anticipated.

ndnfan - Agree with you on the UNDER for DET/CLE. I think everyone will get to see why the organization is so high on this kid tonight. One of the more solid plays on the board today. Keep up the good work!

Great write-ups - you have scared me off the Giants. You are write about their offense - pitiful. I think the most interesting thing is about the Rockie pitcher. Excellent stuff regardless of the outcome!

Thanks for the comments all.....hopefully things turn out well today.

Jr.......interesting you mention the lines moving that way. Does not surprise me at all as they are basically both plays against the overall public and how they are viewing these two games. Lot's of "hidden" value and "deceiving" things in both games, we'll see what happens. If we draw a good Ump in the Cleveland game, think the play's as good as it gets.

Good luck to you and all today :)

like colo and have them for 2 units....did not expect it to get that high (+140)....Although I've been getting murdered lately, the times I overlap with yours have been gold...hope it continues.

I always like going against sf on the road and taking col at home. They are very different teams in home/away roles. Not sold on the idea that the gnats offensive woes will continue tonight, but I see them getting outscored. Main problem I have with this play is that the Giants are 60% on the road behind Rueter over the last five years, netting quite a profit.

Will likely ride your insight on clev total....thanks for the write-up

unreal finish to this game. did not not think this play had a prayer after the 3rd but feel as if it was stolen from the win column the way it ended.

Home run, hit by pitch, walk after being ahead 1-2, wild pitch followed by what probably would have been game ending double play. just unbeleivable.

I pushed with 10 but feel sorry for your loss, total bullshit.

You sure as hell didn't deserve all that BS in both games today. You'll be redeemed Tuesday, and I look forward to whatever you have to say....late.
