Tampa Bay Rays (23-26) at Cleveland Indians (20-28), 12:05 p.m.

Probable Starting Pitchers: Tampa Bay - Jeff Niemann (4-3, 4.53) Cleveland - David Huff (0-1, 17.55)

The Cleveland Indians are in the midst of one of their most successful stretches of the season. Playing home games against the Tampa Bay Rays has likely helped that recent surge.

The Indians shoot for a 17th consecutive victory over the Rays at Progressive Field, as well as their first series sweep of 2009, when these teams conclude a four-game set this afternoon.

Cleveland's home dominance of Tampa Bay continued on Wednesday, with the Rays failing to hold on to a big lead for the second time in this series. Ben Francisco went 3-for-5 with four RBI and finished a triple short of hitting for the cycle to lead the Tribe to a 12-5 triumph.

Shin-Soo Choo belted a two-run homer and Victor Martinez knocked in a pair of runs with a double to help Cleveland overcome an early 5-0 deficit and win three straight games for the first time this season. The victory was also the sixth in the Indians' last eight contests.

"It's been a hump we've been trying to get over," Indians manager Eric Wedge said of the three-game win streak. "And I'm glad to see these guys be able to go out and do it. We've got to be able to sleep fast and go out (Thursday) and try to do it again."

Tampa Bay, on the other hand, has now lost a season-high four games in a row and has yet to recover from a devastating 11-10 defeat to the Indians on Monday. In that game, Cleveland scored seven times in the bottom of the ninth inning to pull off an improbable comeback.

In Wednesday's tilt, Greg Aquino (1-0) picked up his first win since 2006 with two scoreless innings in relief of Indians starter Zach Jackson, who was reached for seven runs (six earned) and eight hits over the first four frames.

The Cleveland bullpen, which has been one of the worst in baseball this season, has scored 13 scoreless innings in this series.

Rays starter Andy Sonnanstine (3-5) was battered for eight runs on nine hits before being lifted after just three innings.

Evan Longoria drove in two runs with a single and a solo homer for Tampa Bay, which last won at Progressive Field on September 28, 2005. Ben Zobrist finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored in the loss, while Gabe Kapler delivered a two-RBI single to cap a five-run first inning.

The Rays hope Jeff Niemann can help them end their frustration in Cleveland when he takes the mound for the visitors this afternoon. The rookie has been pitching well as of late, having compiled a 2-0 record with a 2.84 earned run average over his last three starts.

Niemann failed to win his third straight outing this past Saturday despite a strong effort against Florida. The 6-foot-9 right-hander limited the Marlins to one run and four hits over six innings in that game.

The former first-round pick is 3-1 with a 4.11 ERA in six road starts this season and will be facing the Indians for the first time.

David Huff makes his third major league start for Cleveland this afternoon and will surely be seeking an upgrade over his first two trips to the hill. The young lefty hasn't pitched more than 3 2/3 innings in either of those starts and has surrendered a total of 13 runs on 14 hits.

Huff was shelled for seven runs in 3 2/3 innings by the Rays in his big league debut back on May 17. The 24-year-old UCLA product wasn't any better in Saturday's start at Cincinnati, where he was roughed up for six runs on seven hits -- including three homers -- in just three innings of work.

A supplemental round selection by Cleveland in the 2006 draft, Huff had gone 5-1 with a 4.35 ERA at Triple-A Columbus prior to his promotion.

Tampa Bay won three of four clashes with the Indians in St. Petersburg from May 14-17 and had taken five of the past six meetings between the teams entering this series.

Preview: Rays (23-26) at Indians (20-28)

Date: May 28, 2009 12:05 PM EDT

It's fitting that the Cleveland Indians' first chance to sweep a series this season would come against the Tampa Bay Rays at home.

The Indians wrap up the set looking for a 17th straight home victory over the struggling Rays on Thursday.

Two days after scoring seven runs in the bottom of the ninth inning en route to an 11-10 series-opening victory, Cleveland (20-28) overcame a five-run deficit to win 12-7 on Wednesday for its season-high third straight victory.

"It's a big win for us, to finally get three straight. We're all feeling confident," said outfielder Ben Francisco of a game delayed almost two hours by rain and played the same day Indians owner Larry Dolan was hospitalized with a mild heart attack.

The Indians have won six of their last eight contests and a season-high four in a row at Progressive Field. They're 4-3 against the Rays (23-26) heading into the finale of the season series.

Having clinched just their fourth winning series this year, the Indians now will try to sweep a fourth straight four-game set from Tampa Bay. The reigning AL champions have lost a season-high four in a row and haven't won in Cleveland since Sept. 28, 2005.

"We have to push through this and fight through it," outfielder Ben Zobrist told the Rays' official Web site.

Francisco homered and drove in four runs for Cleveland, which has scored 28 runs in the last three games. He's batting .368 (7 for 19) with three homers and nine RBIs in six games against Tampa Bay this season.

On Wednesday, Tampa Bay scored five first-inning runs, but gave up eight over the second and third innings. Rays' pitchers have yielded 21 earned runs and walked 15 batters over 24 2-3 innings in the set.

Right-hander Jeff Niemann (4-3, 4.53 ERA) hopes to turn things around for the Rays and cool off the Indians' bats when he faces them for the first time.

Though he didn't factor in the decision of his last start, Niemann allowed one run and four hits while striking out a season-high five in six innings of a 10-3 win at Florida on Saturday. He's surrendered four earned runs in 14 innings over his last two starts.

(The) last two have gone pretty well," Niemann said. "I'm trying to build on those and just keep the ball rolling."

Evan Longoria homered and drove in two runs Wednesday for Tampa Bay, which is trying to get by without injured regulars Pat Burrell (neck), Jason Bartlett (ankle) and Akinori Iwamura (knee).

Tampa Bay's Carl Crawford singled Wednesday to extend his hitting streak to seven games. He's batting .320 (8 for 25) against the Indians this season.

The Rays could have a good chance at ending their losing streak in Cleveland as they face struggling rookie David Huff.

Huff (0-1, 17.55) has allowed 13 runs in 6 2-3 innings of his first two career starts. He gave up six and seven hits in three innings of a 7-6 win at Cincinnati on Saturday.

"It's disappointing," the left-hander told the Indians' official Web site. "I'm a competitor. I love to win. I need to win. So this is frustrating."

Boston Red Sox (27-20) at Minnesota Twins (24-24), 1:10 p.m.

Probable Starting Pitchers: Boston - Josh Beckett (4-2, 5.01) Minnesota - Anthony Swarzak (1-0, 0.00)

The slumping Boston Red Sox no longer sit alone atop the American League East standings and now share the division lead with the hated New York Yankees thanks to a two-game losing streak.

Boston will try for a split of its four-game series with the Minnesota Twins Thursday afternoon at the Metrodome and is coming off last night's 4-2 loss in the third installment of this series. Starting pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka fell to 0-3 this season after he was reached for three runs and nine hits in five innings of work. Four wild pitches didn't help the right-hander either.

"I think sometimes you need a lot of experience to see how you are going to pitch in certain situations to certain hitters, and there were cases out there today that our signs didn't match up all the time or our timing didn't match up," Matsuzaka said through a translator. "All that comes from experience. I think I needed to take more of a leadership role out there with respect to working with [catcher George] Kottaras today."

Jason Bay hit his 14th home run of the season and Kevin Youkilis recorded a sacrifice fly for the Red Sox, who have dropped four of their last six contests. Jacoby Ellsbury went 2-for-4 with an RBI and extended his career- high hitting streak to 22 games. Ellsbury is one of 11 Red Sox players since 1920 to record multiple single-season hit streaks of at least 18 games. He had an 18-game hit streak in 2008.

Ellsbury is hitting .340 (34-for-100) with four RBI, 16 runs scored and 11 stolen bases during the streak, which is the club's longest since Youkilis posted a hit in 23 consecutive games from May 5-June 1, 2007. Ellsbury's streak is also the longest of the season in the American League and second- longest overall behind Washington's Ryan Zimmerman, who had a 30-game run earlier this season.

Boston is 1-2 on a 10-game road trip and will visit the Toronto Blue Jays for three games over the weekend. It is 10-14 away from Fenway Park this season.

Josh Beckett will try to win his third straight decision when he takes the ball for Boston in Thursday's series finale. Beckett is 2-0 over his last four starts, with the Red Sox going 3-1 over that span. He entered his previous start with a 2-0 mark and a 3.79 ERA in three games, then hurled a season-high eight innings and gave up one unearned run in a 3-2 loss versus the New York Mets at Fenway Park on Saturday.

Beckett improved to 4-2 in nine 2009 starts and lowered his earned run average from 5.85 to 5.01. He has struck out five batters in four straight starts and will try to push his away ledger over the .500 mark. Beckett is 2-2 with a 6.08 ERA in four road starts this season.

The right-hander will face the Twins for the fourth time in his career and he is 2-1 with a 4.74 ERA in three prior encounters.

Meanwhile, Minnesota has won two straight since losing the series opener to Boston on Monday and is 6-1 over the last seven games. Jason Kubel had two hits, an RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's win, while Brendan Harris also had two hits and an RBI for the Twins, who are 3 1/2 games behind Detroit for the AL Central lead.

Denard Span finished 4-for-4 with two runs scored and starting pitcher Kevin Slowey earned his seventh win of the season with six strong innings. Slowey surrendered a pair of runs on six hits, struck out five and walked one. Joe Nathan later posted his eighth save of the season with a perfect ninth inning.

"This is a very good baseball team over there with a lineup just full of guys who can hurt you and have quality at-bats," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said of the Red Sox. "Nothing comes easy with them. Slowey really had to work through it tonight and made a lot of good pitches."

The Twins are 5-1 on a seven-game homestand and 19-10 as the host this season.

Minnesota prospect Anthony Swarzak will make his second career start Thursday and will try to replicate what he did in his debut last Saturday against the Milwaukee Brewers. Swarzak, who was recalled from Triple-A Rochester after Glen Perkins landed on the disabled list with a left elbow problem, pitched seven shutout innings and gave up five hits with three strikeouts and two walks for the win in a 6-2 triumph over Milwaukee in an interleague affair.

Swarzak was suspended 50 games at the start of the 2007 season for violating Minor League Baseball's Drug Policy, and was a second round pick of the Twins in the 2004 First-Year Player Draft. The right-hander went 3-4 with a 2.25 ERA in seven starts for Rochester and may shift to the bullpen when Perkins returns from the DL.

Boston won four of its seven matchups with the Twins last season, but won the final three meetings of that year's series.

Josh Beckett gave his catcher plenty of chances to hustle in his last outing. Fortunately for the Boston Red Sox, those consisted of jogs back to the dugout after successful innings.

Coming off an outstanding start, Beckett looks to help the Red Sox settle down after a wild performance on the mound as they conclude a four-game series with the Minnesota Twins on Thursday.

Boston (27-20) has lost four of six to drop into a first-place tie with the New York Yankees in the AL East, and none of its defeats was as bizarre as the one Wednesday night.

Daisuke Matsuzaka and two other pitchers combined to tie a modern-day record with six wild pitches in a 4-2 loss.

Matsuzaka threw four wild pitches to tie a franchise record set 80 years ago, and relievers Manny Delcarmen and Justin Masterson also had the catcher scrambling. It was the fifth time since 1900 that a team threw six wild pitches in a game, and first since the California Angels against Minnesota on April 13, 1991.

"A lot going on around the dirt area," Red Sox manager Terry Francona said. "There were a lot of balls bouncing."

Beckett (4-2, 5.01 ERA) hasn't thrown a wild pitch all season and was in complete control the last time he took the mound. In his best start of the season, the right-hander surrendered an unearned run and five hits in eight innings of a 3-2 loss to the New York Mets on Saturday, but didn't factor in the decision.

He walked just one in that contest, but he has issued 24 bases on balls in 55 2-3 innings. In 2008, Beckett walked only 34 in 174 1-3 innings.

Beckett is 2-1 with a 4.74 ERA in three starts against the Twins. This will be his first career appearance at the Metrodome.

The Twins (24-24) have won six of seven, averaging 8.1 runs during that span. They were led Wednesday by speedy leadoff hitter Denard Span, who had four hits, a walk and two runs scored. Five of the Red Sox's wild pitches came with him on base.

In his first full season as a starter, Span is batting .316 with 22 RBIs and 11 stolen bases. He's hitting .483 (14 for 29) in his last eight games.

Twins third baseman Joe Crede may return to the lineup Thursday after missing three straight games with a bruised hand. Three of his eight homers have come in his last four games.

Minnesota's Anthony Swarzak (1-0, 0.00) will make his second major league start. The right-hander won his debut, giving up five hits in seven scoreless innings of a 6-2 victory over Milwaukee on Saturday.

"He came up here and showed he belongs," catcher Joe Mauer said of Minnesota's second-round draft pick in 2004.

The Red Sox have had a tough time solving opposing pitchers over the last week, scoring three runs or fewer in four of their last six games. Slumping slugger David Ortiz has batted sixth in the order the last two games, going 1 for 7 to drop his average to .193.

Probable Starting Pitchers: Detroit - Armando Galarraga (3-4, 5.74) Baltimore - David Hernandez (0-0, 0.00)

- Another Baltimore Orioles pitcher will make his major league debut tonight, as David Hernandez will take the mound in the opener of a four-game series versus the Detroit Tigers at Camden Yards.

Jason Berken won his big league debut in Tuesday's win over Toronto by tossing five strong innings of two-run ball with three walks and three strikeouts. Berken was called up from Triple-A Norfolk to help Baltimore's injury-riddled rotation. Now it's Hernandez's turn on the hill and he will take the place of Koji Uehara, who was slated to start Thursday until he was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sore left hamstring.

Hernandez has compiled a 3-1 record and a 2.91 ERA in eight games at Norfolk this season and fanned 14 batters in his last minor league outing. The right- hander led the Eastern League in strikeouts last year and currently ranks second in the International League in that category.

He will try to extend Baltimore's season-high three-game win streak tonight after the club posted its first sweep of the campaign by taking all three matchups against the Toronto Blue Jays, including Wednesday's 12-10 victory in 11 innings.

Nolan Reimold clubbed a three-run homer in the bottom of the 11th to lead the Orioles to victory, while Luke Scott ended with a homer, two runs scored and three RBI. Adam Jones added three hits and a pair of RBI and Rob Andino finished 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored for Baltimore, which has won five of its last six overall and remained perfect on a seven-game homestand.

"That's about as much fun as I've had in a long time," said O's skipper Dave Trembley. "That's reminiscent of some of those games we played last year -- way behind and came back late and won. It was just such a great, great atmosphere in our dugout today.

Danys Baez registered the win even though he allowed two runs and three hits over three relief innings. Starter Rich Hill was tagged for six hits and seven runs -- six earned -- over just 3 1/3 innings in the no-decision.

"I'm glad we won because I'm glad we got the win for the team, but also for Baez," Trembley continued. "He deserved to get the win. He went an extra mile for us. So did a lot of other guys today, but especially Baez."

The AL Central-leading Tigers just won two of three meetings with the Kansas City Royals and recorded an 8-3 triumph on Wednesday in the finale of the set. Placido Polanco had a big offensive night by going 2-for-5 with a homer and three RBI as the Tigers won for the ninth time in 12 tries.

Josh Anderson recorded four hits, a run scored and an RBI while Miguel Cabrera notched his 10th homer of the year in the win. Tigers starter Rick Porcello extended his personal win streak to five games, holding Kansas City to two runs on four hits over six innings.

"I think I'm doing a better job getting my breaking ball over for strikes," Porcello said after the game. "I've given hitters a different look that way just to keep them off my fastball. I think that's the biggest thing so far. I'm going to keep working on it and get better."

The Tigers are 2-1 on a seven-game road trip and sit 3 1/2 games ahead of the Minnesota Twins in the Central standings.

Detroit skipper Jim Leyland will hand the ball to Armando Galarraga Thursday evening. Galarraga is 0-4 with a 9.93 earned run average over his last five starts, with Detroit going 1-4 in that time frame.

Galarraga last pitched on Saturday versus Colorado and suffered the loss for allowing four runs and six hits in 5 1/3 innings of his team's 4-3 setback. He has yielded at least four or more runs in five straight starts.

The right-hander faced Baltimore for the first time in his career on July 18 last season at Camden Yards, and was dealt the loss. Galarraga gave up five runs, four of which were earned, on eight hits over 6 2/3 innings of a 7-4 setback. He struck out six without walking a batter.

Baltimore went 4-3 against Detroit a season ago, but the Tigers have won eight of the 12 most recent matchups between the teams.

With all the anticipation built up surrounding Friday's arrival of catching prospect Matt Wieters, the rest of the Baltimore Orioles' young talent could get overshadowed.

They won't if they keep playing at this high level.

Coming off their first three-game sweep of the season on a walk-off three-run homer by rookie Nolan Reimold, the Orioles go for their season-high fourth consecutive win Thursday night when they open a four-game set against the AL Central-leading Detroit Tigers at Camden Yards.

After losing its previous four games this season when going for a three-game sweep, Baltimore (21-26) rallied Wednesday with five runs in the eighth inning and four in the 11th to defeat struggling Toronto 12-10.

"We'll play until the game is over and make every at-bat count," said Reimold, who has four homers and nine RBIs in 13 games since being called up from Triple-A Norfolk on May 14.

In his first game since straining his left shoulder May 10 against the New York Yankees, designated hitter Luke Scott hit a two-run homer in his first at-bat and added an RBI single before Reimold's homer.

"We've had some guys come up ... that have really brought some energy to the field," said Scott, who batted .542 (13 for 24) with five home runs and 10 RBIs as Baltimore won four of seven versus Detroit last season.

Wieters, arguably the top prospect in baseball, is expected to be in Baltimore's lineup Friday. The 6-foot-5 catcher was batting .305 with five homers and 30 RBIs with Norfolk through Tuesday.

With the Orioles placing Koji Uehara on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with a strained left hamstring, David Hernandez looks to become the latest Baltimore pitcher to win his major league debut. Brad Bergesen defeated the Chicago White Sox on April 21 and Jason Berken yielded two runs over five innings in Tuesday's 7-2 victory over Toronto.

Hernandez went 3-1 with a 2.91 ERA in eight starts at Norfolk this season with 60 strikeouts in 43 1-3 innings. In his last start, he struck out 14 against Rochester on Friday.

"I think it's a boost for the whole ball club," Orioles pitching coach Rick Kranitz said prior to Wednesday's game. "They're excited about these young kids coming up and attacking hitters."

Hernandez will face a Tigers club that won two of three in Kansas City to open its seven-game road trip. Led by Josh Anderson's 4 for 5 effort and homers from Placido Polanco and Miguel Cabrera, Detroit (26-19) pounded out 12 hits in Wednesday's 8-3 victory over the Royals.

Polanco is batting .338 (22 for 65) in 13 career games at Camden Yards. Cabrera, meanwhile, hit just .200 in four games in Baltimore last season.

Magglio Ordonez extended his hitting streak to 13 with a single in five at_bats. He is batting .331 (50 for 151) with six homers and 22 RBIs in 38 career road games against the Orioles.

The Tigers open this series with Armando Galarraga (3-4, 5.74) on the mound. The right-hander is looking to bounce back from a 4-3 loss to Colorado on Saturday, when he gave up four runs in 5 1-3 innings.

"(Galarraga) certainly wasn't terrible, but his stuff isn't crisp right now,' Detroit manager Jim Leyland said.

Galarraga is 0-4 with a 9.93 ERA in five May starts after opening the season 3-0 with a 1.85 ERA.

Orioles center fielder Adam Jones went 3 for 6 and raised his batting average to .359 as Baltimore had a season-high 18 hits Wednesday.

Los Angeles Dodgers (33-15) at Chicago Cubs (23-22), 8:05 p.m.

Probable Starting Pitchers: Los Angeles - Randy Wolf (2-1, 3.02) Chicago - Randy Wells (0-1, 1.50)

The last time the Dodgers visited Wrigley Field, they left on quite a roll. They hope to do the same thing this time around.

Los Angeles, owners of the best record in baseball, will visit the Chicago Cubs for the first time since last season's playoffs, as the two clubs kick off a four-game set tonight.

The Cubs and Dodgers met in last season's NLDS. Though Chicago entered the postseason having posted the best regular-season record in the National League, Los Angeles had already made a splash by acquiring Manny Ramirez.

Chicago had also posted an NL-best 55-26 mark at home in 2008, but the Dodgers rolled to wins of 7-2 and 10-3 in the Windy City before finishing off the three-game sweep with a 3-1 home win in Game 3. That came after the Cubs had won five of seven versus the Dodgers in the regular season, including all three games played at Wrigley Field.

"It's interesting," manager Joe Torre told Chicago's Web site. "We go back to Wrigley where we lost three straight there during the regular season but had success the first two games there during the playoffs."

Torre's club, which then lost to Philadelphia in the NLCS, heads to Chicago tonight having swept Colorado in three games and as winners in 11 of its last 14. Though the Dodgers won't have Ramirez due to his current 50-game suspension, Juan Pierre has done an excellent job replacing him in left field.

Pierre had three hits and a pair of RBI in Wednesday's 8-6 victory. He is 10- for-20 over his last four games with a pair of triples, five runs scored and seven RBI. Pierre has upped his season average to .404 with the increased playing time.

James Loney drove in four runs in yesterday's win, while Orlando Hudson added a hit to stretch his career-best hitting streak to 17 games. He is hitting .370 (27-for-73) over the tear.

Randy Wolf draws the starting assignment for tonight's game and he hasn't lost in nine starts since his lone defeat of 2009 on April 7 in his first start of the season. He has, however, posted just two wins in that span and hasn't factored into the decision in two straight and eight of his last nine starts.

The left-handed Wolf faced the Angels on Saturday and allowed four runs on 10 hits over 6 1/3 innings. He is just 3-7 with a 4.71 earned run average in 15 career starts versus the Cubs, though he did pitch a shutout against them on September 3, 2008.

Chicago, meanwhile, has won two straight after dropping eight in a row, taking Wednesday's rubber match with Pittsburgh by a 5-2 margin. Reed Johnson sparked a three-run eighth inning with a solo homer and Andres Blanco and Jake Fox, both recalled from Triple-A Iowa prior to the game, both drove in runs in that frame.

The Cubs, though, will likely lose Carlos Zambrano for a period of time after he was ejected in the seventh inning. Zambrano, who was aiming for career win No. 100 and was pitching in his second game since returning from injury, was tossed after a close play at the plate following a wild pitch didn't go his way. His antics included apparent contact with home plate umpire Mark Carlson, whom he also mockingly ejected, as well as the righty tossing a ball in left field and attacking some objects in the dugout with a bat.

"I'm the only calm, cool and collected one around here, it seems -- I'm just kidding," Piniella told the Cubs' site. "[Zambrano] cares, but, look, you can argue a little bit, get your point across to the umpire that he thought the runner was out, but get back there and pitch and finish the inning and give yourself a chance to get the win. It didn't happen. Now we'll see what the outcome is."

Randy Wells follows Zambrano's fiery outing and will be making the fourth start of his career. Wells went through a lot of firsts last time out, as he gave up three runs on five hits over seven innings on Saturday versus San Diego. It was his first major-league decision and also the first runs allowed of his career.

The 26-year-old righty was replacing Zambrano in the rotation, but is now taking the spot of the injured Rich Harden. Wells threw 11 shutout innings over his first two starts this year, both no-decisions, and has never faced the Dodgers.

The last time the Los Angeles Dodgers visited Wrigley Field, they helped contribute to the Chicago Cubs' longstanding postseason misery.

The surging Dodgers return to Chicago for the first time since embarrassing the Cubs in the first two games of the 2008 NL division series to open a four-game set Thursday night.

Though Chicago swept a three-game set from Los Angeles last May, the Dodgers carried over their strong play from the final month of the regular season and easily swept the Cubs in three games.

Manny Ramirez homered in each of the first two contests as the Dodgers outscored the Cubs 17-5 at Wrigley before eliminating them with a 3-1 victory at home in Game 3.

It was the second straight season Chicago was swept in the NLDS and came during the 100th anniversary season of its last World Series championship.

Los Angeles lost in five games to Philadelphia in the NL championship series.

"It's interesting," manager Joe Torre told the Dodgers' official Web site. "We go back to Wrigley where we lost three straight there during the regular season but had success the first two games there during the playoffs.

"It's not an easy place to go to, but we're playing well."

Almost two months into the 2009 season, the Dodgers (33-15) have the best record in the majors and a potent lineup that's thrived despite losing Ramirez to a 50-game drug suspension on May 7. The Dodgers lead the NL in runs (276) and batting average (.292), while posting a solid 3.78 ERA.

Chicago (23-22), meanwhile, has endured a rash of injuries to core players Aramis Ramirez, Derrek Lee and Carlos Zambrano, while trying to find some consistency at the plate.

Each team, though, enters this contest having won their previous series.

Former Cub Juan Pierre had three hits in Los Angeles' 8-6 win at Colorado on Wednesday to sweep that three-game set. The Dodgers have won four in a row and seven of their last eight on the road.

Pierre is 35 for 83 (.422) with 17 RBIs since Ramirez's suspension, and 10 for 20 with seven RBIs in his last four games.

"J.P. has been on fire ever since he's been starting,' Wednesday's winning pitcher Clayton Kershaw said. "But everybody is stepping up."

Orlando Hudson is batting .370 (27 for 73) during a career-high 17-game hitting streak, but .197 in 20 games versus Chicago.

Randy Wolf (2-1, 3.02 ERA) takes the ball for the Dodgers after allowing four runs and 10 hits in 6 1-3 innings of a 5-4, 10-inning win over the Angels on Saturday.

The left-hander, who has not factored in his last two decisions and seven overall this year, is 3-7 with a 4.71 ERA in 15 games against the Cubs. Wolf, however, threw a six-hitter in a 4-0 win at Chicago on Sept. 3 while with Houston.

Right-handed hitting Reed Johnson could be in the lineup again after his eighth-inning homer helped Chicago to a 5-2 win over Pittsburgh on Wednesday.

Ryan Theriot added three hits for the Cubs, who have won two in a row after losing a season-high eight straight. The shortstop was 7 for 11 with three RBIs against the Pirates, but is 2 for 11 versus Wolf.

The Cubs have scored 19 runs in their last three games after totaling 10 in their previous seven contests.

"Since we've come home, we've been swinging more relaxed and putting more runs on the board and hitting the ball hard with consistency," manager Lou Piniella told the Cubs' official Web site.

Randy Wells (0-1, 1.50) makes his fourth start for the Cubs and first against Los Angeles. After not allowing a run in 11 innings over his first two outings, the right-hander gave up three runs in seven innings of a 3-1 loss at San Diego on Saturday.
