I do love seeing a game come in that went totally against so many peoples pre-conceived notions.
I have a rule that I won't play a dog if I don't think they have a legit shot at winning. Often, I play them ML and with the points. last night I didn't think b-mo had that shot so I stayed away from a side.
Ravens have some good young talent and some tough characters. They're not going to be duplicating last night too many times, but they have a lot of good elements there.
I like MNF. I usually don't watch the SNF games, so its the only time I watch that only 1 game is going on and I'm not flipping or always worried about scores and whatnot.
The show is top-notch for the most part. I guess when you only have 1 game to put on, you get good production. Look how fast they put together a Ray Lewis highlight reel last night (the pick, the chase-down, the block, etc.). They were right there with the clip of Heap and Sharpe talking to each other when Michaels started talking about it. Right after Madden was making jokes about Redman having half the field on his hat, they went to commercial showing a slo-mo clip of his helmet picking up the sod. That's the kind of stuff that just makes the whole show feel professional. I'm not a big fan of michaels/madden and sometimes in the 2nd half, I'll MUTE it and put on some music or the radio.
I like instant replay, too. You should too as a gambler. If I get beat on a call, I want it to be the right call. You might feel like you've lost games (or won games) because of bad calls, but it used to happen more than it does now. I wish it was more streamlined -- I don't know why they don't have an official in the booth with the luxury of looking at it in peace and quiet on a good screen to make the call and radio it down.
One other thing, now I'm no stodgy old bastard, but I kind of respect the NFL for cracking down on stuff like end zone dances, tucked-shirts, funny shoes, long towels, taking the helmet off, etc. The XFL tried to encourage that stuff, but how many older people do you know that don't watch the NBA anymore because of guys like Iverson and Rodman and the chest thumping? The NFL has a good product, which we all obviously like. They're closely tied to TV so they want something that plays well on the tube and the "uniform uniforms" and the no dancing is part of what they want to portray. The NFL wouldn't lose ME if they allowed that stuff to go on, but I think there's a pretty big core of viewers that they are worried they would lose.
That's it -- nothing too interesting there, but just a few rambling notes. Back later this week with some picks. Not seeing much I like this week, though.
