My show plays have been almost non-existent since the NCAA and NIT started. This one would normally be a weak play but it has hit 6 in a row so I'll go with it tonight.

I'll point something out that most of you probably already know. The NIT is all about money. What I mean by that is that the home team is the one that they believe will have the biggest crowd and the one they seem to give all the breaks to. Tonight there are only 6 teams that won on the road in their first game and 5 of those are back on the road again. The ones that won on the road are Davidson, Vermont, NE, UTEP, C of C and Belmont. Only UTEP is at home and they are playing NE. It surprises me that KY with their big fan base is on the road. But then, the KY fans will show up anywhere they play. I'll be looking really close at all 6 of these teams because if they won they over-came the home cooking that went with being the road team in the NIT. I already like
Davidson and C of C. Did you notice that all the home teams are the fav?

I can tell u about the Belmont game. One of my good friends calls their games, and he was dreading playing the first round up in Evansville which is capital of "home cooking". He's very objective, and he said the officiating was atrocious. Without looking at the box again, I think that Belmont hit 17 3 pointers at a pretty high %.

3 pointers are still their game, and if they are hitting, they can beat anybody. Belmont also had some very nice road wins in 07/08 and 06/07 and they usually dominate their conference even on the road. Their coach, Rick Byrd is an exceptionally nice guy and gets what he can out of players with the talent level that he can recruit.

I know nothing about ODU this year. Kind of a drawn out response, but on the home cooking angle, yes, Belmont did win and play through that last week. gl!

I did listen to the Zone this morning, and their didn't seem to be much excitement about this 4th rate tourney, but I wouldn't expect much. :142smilie
