NOTES

Yankees starters have allowed 27 runs -- 24 earned -- and 36 hits in 21 2-3 innings for a 9.97 ERA.

The Yankees put LF Hideki Matsui on the 15-day DL, a day after he strained his hamstring. Kevin Thompson will be recalled from Triple-A Scranton. ..

Johnny Damon may be coming off the bench for a third straight game to avoid further straining his calf injury on the turf at the Metrodome.

Detroit at
Baltimore
Mon, Apr 9 - 3:05 pm EDT

Daniel Cabrera (0-1, 3.86 ERA) looks for his first victory of the season in his second start. He pitched effectively at Minnesota on Tuesday when he gave up three runs over seven innings in a 3-2 loss.
The right-hander is 2-0 with a 6.43 ERA in four career outings against the Tigers, although he did not register a decision in two starts against them last year while posting an 11.00 ERA.
Baltimore placed catcher Ramon Hernandez on the 15-day disabled list before the game due to a strained left oblique muscle. Bako and Alberto Castillo will split time to replace him.

Chad Durbin will make his first start since Aug. 26, 2004 for Detroit. Durbin is beginning the season as the Tigers' fifth starter since veteran Kenny Rogers is on the disabled list with a shoulder injury

Durbin started last season in the minors and pitched six innings for Detroit in 2006. The right-hander, who also spent the 2005 season in the minors, is 1-3 with a 6.20 ERA against Baltimore in five appearances, including three starts.

Daniel Cabrera allowed two runs in 7 2-3 innings, Kevin Millar homered in a four-run third, and Baltimore began the home portion of its schedule by defeating the Detroit Tigers 6-2 Monday.

Detroit's Brandon Inge went 0-for-3 and is hitless in 20 at-bats this season. gotta break out soon..Det. goes nowhere w/out him hitting .250 w/25 dingers at least

... The crowd was the second-largest for an opener in the 16-year history of Camden Yards.

Tue, Apr 10 7:05 pm EDT N. Robertson vs. J. Wright

Wright has never lost a game at Camden Yards in five lifetime starts, going 3-0 with a 4.11 ERA...shelled last time out at Minn. 4 earned in 2.1 innings throwing 66 pitches..control:scared

Cardinals staff ace Chris Carpenter was placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday after an MRI exam in St. Louis revealed arthritis and a previously undiscovered impingement in his right elbow

With Carpenter unable to make his previously scheduled start Tuesday night in Pittsburgh, left-hander Randy Keisler was called up from Triple-A Memphis to pitch.

It was his day to pitch. He's got some experience," manager Tony La Russa said. Brad Thompson and Ryan Franklin will remain in relief, while top prospect Blake Hawksworth will remain in Triple-A. Hawksworth originally was tabbed as the Cardinals' "No. 6 starter" this spring

Keisler gave up one run and five hits in five innings in his only start this season for Triple-A Memphis. He was effective during spring training for St. Louis, allowing only an unearned run and three hits over eight innings in four games

worth a look at the total Tues

St Louis Cardinals
R. Keisler +1.5 -175 +121 OVER 9 +106
Pittsburgh Pirates
T. Gorzelanny -1.5 +165 -129 UNDER 9 -116

Tom Gorzelanny (1-0) allowed seven hits and three runs with four strikeouts in five innings for the win vs Hou.
