Tampa Bay at Washington................................................................

First the news, and not good for TB.

Center Lecavalier is out for monday. He's a leading scorer with 4 goals and in last 7 games. Needed bad with top scorers M. St Louis and Modin out. Now he is.

Bolt's GM Dudley resigned. He's tired of working with the small budget. He's the one who got Modin, St Louis and Khabib. So will be sorely missed, and everyone in organization knows how much he helped.

TB 10-18-3 away
WA 14-10-4 at home

6 meetings in 2001, WA went 5-0-1. And are 11-1-1 last 13.
Dominate TB more than anyone except NYI (undefeated last 21)

3 meetings this season. Tie in TB, WA 3-2 at home, WA 4-2 at TB saturday. TB's other home and home set was FL. TB won first at FL, lost at TB. WA played hard sat, were outplayed in much of it. gave goalie Billington good defence.

Billington taking duties over from injured Kolzig. He's 1-0-1 vs TB this season. 1.50 gga, .932 in those games. 3-4-3 for season, 3.25 gga, .875 pct.

Khabib hasn't been sharp of late. Pulled in last game, for third time this year. He's 2-2-1 in next game after being pulled.

TB 3-6-1 last 10. Defeated FL, NJ, and Khabib shut out NYR on road.
WA 3-6-1 last 10. Defeated MN, AT and TB. Fighting for playoff spot. Need points bad.

Tonight's game is last one for both teams until after break

The team is treating every game like a playoff game right now. A win tonight gives them 7 of a possible 8 points to be had for WASH from the All Star Break thru Olympics and puts them w/in 8 points of CAR in the SE with 2 games in hand.

Injuries- Jagr practiced yesterday and is expected to play. Kolzig's injury is thought to be just a sprain but he is having an MRI today. If the results are bad any slim chance they have of getting into the playoffs would be severely damaged. IMO it could have a bad effect on the team tonight if the MRI shows a tear.

Last 13 games vs. TB WASH is 11-1-1

Sports Junkie, good stuff! Bad Kolzig news would be a downer. TB has had time to process it's bad news.

WA had to play very tough in TB to win that one. Hard to sweep a home and home series. Khabib could stand on his head, he's due any day now.
Not sure on taking WA, with the price. WA has talked how they want the points, already got most of what they set out to do before the break.

Detroit at Montreal

Detroit at Montreal

Detroit News reports Yzerman returns tonight.

Det 14-8-3 away
Habs 14-9-4 at home. 5-2-1 ATS last 8 home. 4-2-2 at home after road loss.

Detroit is 18-7-2 on 1 day rest. 13-6-2 after win on 1 day rest.
MTL 13-14-4 on 1 day rest, 8-8 after a loss on 1 day rest.

Detroit is 4-2 on road vs Habs (going back to '95).
Last meeting was 4-2 Detroit road win 11/1/2000. This is only meeting of the season.

Under 16-8 Detroit away. under 16-8 on 1 day rest
Under 17-7 Habs at home, under 15-12 on 1 day rest
Under 4-1-1 MTL last 6
Under 5-1 Detroit last 6

Hasek 20-9-4 vs Habs, 2.11 gga, .943 pct. He's 6-0-2 last 8 starts. 1.5 gga last 8.

Theodore 1-1-0 vs Det, 2.01 gga, .939. He just had two shutouts, then gave up 3 on road to Toronto, mainly due to poor defense by team. I'm sure they'll correct that tonight.

Detroit no3 in PP in league, no4 in PK
Detroit no2 in least number of goals allowed, and no 2 in offense, overall. On road would be lower, can't get stats on that. Anybody have 'em?

MTL has scored just 1 goal in each of last 3 games.
MTL also has allowed just 10 goals in last 6 (1.67) sez AP. They are 2 points from playoff spot.

LA
from LA times....
Palffy and Lubomir Visnovsky, a King defenseman who played in both weekend games for Slovakia, were scheduled to fly into Los Angeles this morning aboard owner Philip Anschutz's private jet.

Palffy is expected to play in tonight's game against the Dallas Stars at Staples Center, but Visnovsky might be scratched.

from website:

Atlanta has earned a 4-4-0-1 lifetime record against the Maple Leafs, including a 2-2 mark at the Air Canada Centre. Tonight's game begins Atlanta's second straight set of games on back-to-back nights, and its 11th set overall. The Thrashers have posted a 5-13-1-1 record in games played on consecutive nights this season, including a 3-6-0-1 mark on the second night of those contests .The Thrashers play at St. Louis tomorrow night before beginning the Olympic break.

Bartecko for Atl expected to miss both games due to Olympic qualifying tourney?Xalthough he played for Slovakia who is now unable to advance to finals, but has a remaining game on tues, not exactly sure of his availability, early in week he was not to play in these games but that may have been b/c everyone assumed they would make the finals?Kbut he did play sat and sun for slovakia so even if he suits up, he should have some fatigue---

trade

trade

tsn site...

TSN has learned the St. Louis Blues have traded veteran winger Mike Keane to the Colorado Avalanche. Keane waived his no trade clause to allow the trade to go through.

There is no word on what the Blues have received in compensation in the deal.

I really liked Boston last night until I read your notes about Grahame being sick and them not wanting to play Dafoe and save him for Vancouver, so I decided to pass on the bet.

Just wanted to say thanks, you saved me from making a costly bet. I always read your guys notes and appreciate all the information you give, thanks again.

Good luck tonight :)
