1st snow and ice storm of the yr..2 -hour delay...for school...
I know I like a lot of "off the beat'en path games but there seems to be some good value in them. But has anyone noticed some of the results of some of these games. There are no lines for most of them..and if your not paying attention some pretty big surprises..
I get a call from my son last night who goes to ECU.."we beat George Mason"...Really don't believe it at 1st but its true. That line was GM -22...ECU wins 68-65...a few nites ago they get pounded by Winthrop at home by 15.It's ECU's 1st win over a D-1 team since last November.Mason is loaded and loses...
UMass beats the Cuse in the dome 107-100 and a few nites later Ind-Purdue beats them 89-77.The St Francis's,Sacred Hearts,Lafayette's and robert Morris's of the Northeast conf knock off this week Loy Md,Columbia,Fordham,Penn,etc...now i know those aren't big upsets but never the less..pretty intresting...
There are always the Texas's upsetting the UCLA's...thats on one level..then the Gardner-Webbs etc...
Capping games like ECU-Mason are quite intresting. I spent about 3 minutes on that game with my crazy system..ECU-7-17 ats..4-7 on the road ats..what kind of gds do they have..do they have a good pt gd..etc..new coach, rebounding, shooting % away from home...and then I passed on the game and went to another...should of taken the Pirates +22...but ECU is so bad..but are they?
Will be back later tonite for one or two games...
Lost my Johnnies game..McClinton did play..won with Texas and OU...for small plays... GL

The college basketball season is playing out a lot like the college football season.....lots of upsets, surprises and the like. We are in for a fun winter, thats for sure.

That Mason score blew me away yesterday.......Mason obviously has a lot of street cred as far as the eventual tourney selection committee goes, but I wonder if this will come back to haunt them come March if they need an at large bid.....its not like ECU is going to go out and have a good season, so that loss will probably look worse and worse as the season goes on.

Of course, it was not a total loss yesterday for the Colonial.....VCU pretty much had their way with Maryland.

Umass? Thought maybe they had turned the corner, but then again games like their win vs S'cuse takes a lot out of players and kids being kids, they weren't as into the game as they should have been.

Some of those upsets in smaller conferences, like fordham and Loy Md losing, I wonder if it a case of some of the clubs still learning how consistently win and struggling to adjust when other teams look at them as a big mark for their resume.....you might have your work cut out for you capping the MAAC this season!

Then there is my local league, the Big 10....Xavier flat out dominates IU on a nuetral court.....Butler plays an amazing half of ball and destroys the Bucks....those are not flukes as Butler and X could win the Big 10 this year......and then what in the world is going up in Ann Arbor....Beilin loses to Harvard and Amaker over the weekend.....sad.

Ohio but not a Buckeye
To ECU's credit, they shot liiiiiiiiiiight's out on the 1H. The 2nd half they weren't shooting well for about the first 10 minutes, which allowed George Mason to climb back into the game. However, they hit a couple late 3's and some FT's to secure the game.

This is one of those games if GMason is on the bubble at the end of the year for not winning the conference tournament that everyone will look back on...
