0-1 ........... - $ 835.00

The Falcons have been known to come out at home and play like scalded dogs.

But their top cornerback, Brent Grimes, who the Falcons put a franchise tag on for 10 million for 1 yr
has a torn ACL and is out for the year. Grimes was the only cornerback I had any confidence in .

So now we got Peyton Manning coming to town with a strong passing game and a solid defense that will rush Matt Ryan and make him get the happy feet.

Asanti Samual and Dunta Robinson :142smilie

The replacement for Grimes is a guy named Franks who did not even make the team. He was called back when there was a injury to kick returner that was placed on IR.

Franks is a cornerback. Not much of one but he is a cornerback.

The other choice is Christopher Owens.:scared

Falcons running game was non existent in the KC game. Turner had 32 yds. I doubt he gets 30 against the Denver defense.

Go Denver !

Agreed

Agreed

I agree with you Eternal...the loss of Grimes, the Falcons best cover CB by far will really hurt on a short term basis and no QB alive has made a living picking on substandard cover guys like P Manning...I think this game plays out a lot like Falcons-Iggles Week 2 game did last year, and that was one of the best regular season games of the year...it ended 35-31, and this one may as well

thanks

I am happy with this wager.

Manning on Monday night in a dome vs the Falcons defense. The real problem will not be Owens playing CB, the real problem is neither of the rushing Edwards and Abraham are worth a shit getting pressure.

That leaves it all on the Secondary.

Owens has not played for like 2 years if my memory is correst other than a fill in. And in the Green Bay playoff game he is the one that Aaron Rodgers torched over and over. :scared

Then they have Franks who really sucks defending.

Then Dunta Robinson who sucks bad also.

big talking Asanti Samual ........ ouch

Turner is about done with his 2 yard bursts only to get stopped like a rock over and over.

Falcons need more from run game
Flowery Branch.

Lost in the Falcons? impressive season-opening victory was a poor rushing attack that coaches and players say must be better if the team is to be truly successful.

It?s hard to find warts after the offense amassed 376 total yards, scored on its first eight possessions and dominated the Chiefs in a 40-24 win. However, it didn?t go unnoticed that the Falcons rushed for only 84 yards.

?We didn?t run the ball very well,? right tackle Tyson Clabo said. ?We had a couple of good runs, but overall I don?t think that we did what we need to do to go where we want to go.?

Michael Turner had just 11 carries for 32 yards, an average of 2.9 yards per carry. He did not play after the Falcons scored 44 seconds into the fourth quarter to take a 20-point lead.:scared

?Not after one game,? Turner said when asked if fans should be concerned with his production. ?If it?s a couple weeks down the road and I?m still looking like that then trade me off your fantasy team.?

The second part of his statement was said in jest, but Turner is serious about the need for an effective rushing attack. The Falcons ran 55 offensive plays against the Chiefs, with 31 passes. Turner said there were several issues in the run game, including blocking schemes, sustaining and finishing blocks and backs making better runs and reads of blocks.:sadwave:

?We missed some blocks and we missed some cuts,? coach Mike Smith said. ?It was a group effort and that?s something we want to address here in the next couple of days. We will address it.?

Turner has averaged 20 carries a game in his five seasons with the Falcons (1,200 carries in 60 regular-season games). While the Falcons are looking to decrease his workload, they had 12 more carries by Jacquizz Rodgers, Jason Snelling and Matt Ryan and threw two screen passes.

Clabo said he believes the mentality of the Falcons is still to be a run-first team. However, they are going to take what a defense gives. The Chiefs? two-gap defense, run out of the 3-4 scheme, is designed to stop the run. It?s a defense that Clabo said has given the Falcons fits for years. He said in the past the team might ?keep hitting our head against the wall? grinding a defense down until it broke a long run.:142smilie

Turner believes the success in the passing game will eventually equate to success in the running game. He said in the past opponents have tried to make the Falcons one-dimensional. They would concentrate on stopping the run because they believed the Falcons couldn?t win by predominately throwing the ball. Now, defenses have to concentrate on Roddy White, Julio Jones and Tony Gonzalez. Just ask the Chiefs.

A good run game cannot be underestimated in this week?s Monday night matchup with Peyton Manning and the Broncos. Keeping Manning off the field can only be an advantage. Manning was 19 of 26 for 253 yards and two touchdowns in the Broncos? 31-19 season-opening win over the Steelers.

The Broncos run a 4-3 defense .

?It?s important to eat up the clock, but we?ve got the offense that can score, so go ahead and get seven [points],? center Todd McClure said. ?The key to playing against a guy like [Manning] is that you always want to be up two scores. You don?t ever want to leave the ball in his hands at the end of the game. You?ve got to try to get up two scores and stay that way.?
...............................................................

The Falcons run game in pre season stunk bad.

So now another excuse. I wanted them to trade Turner last year but I doubt they could get anything but a fifth or sixth rd pick for him.

And the Steelers did keep Manning off the field for almost a hour of the game at one point.

The Falcons will not be able to do that . I smell 3 and outs for the Falcons.

Denvers defense is twice as good as KC

KC did have alot of the defense out though.

But Denver will come in to whip some asses with all players healthy.

FLOWERY BRANCH ? With Brent Grimes out for the season, Dunta Robinson will move back out to right cornerback and Christopher Owens will take over at nickel back, Falcons coach Mike Smith said on Thursday.

?In terms of our base defense, Dunta will move into the right corner position and Christopher Owens will move into the nickel spot,? Smith said.

Owens is the prototypical nickel. He?s physical, tough and can change directions quickly. He continues to show off his speed on special teams, when he ran down two returners to keep touchdowns off the board last season.

The Falcons signed Terrence Johnson, who played some nickel back last season for Indianapolis. Also, Robert McClain, who played previously with Carolina and Jacksonville, and Dominique Franks have played some nickel back experience.

McClain finished ahead of Franks as the fifth corner in the final cut down. Franks, who played in 11 games and started four games last season, was re-signed after wide receiver Tim Toone suffered a hamstring injury.

McClain can play both inside and outside. He played in 16 games and made two starts for Carolina after being drafted in the seventhround of the 2010 draft
.................................................................

Dunta Robinson was moved from CB because he couldnt cover man to man. Grimes and Asanti took over .

Now Dunta back where he couldnt cover and they got Owens in the nickel. Middle of the field will be open like a 5 lane highway.:scared

If the Falcons can get sacks and pressure from Abraham and Edwards they will be fine. :142smilie :142smilie

FLOWERY BRANCH ?Falcons starting right tackle Tyson Clabo (hip) and weakside linebacker Sean Weatherspoon (hamstring) were limited in practice Saturday and were listed on the official injury report as questionable for Monday?s game against the Denver Broncos.

The questionable designation means that the Falcons believe both starters have a 50 percent chance of playing.

If Clabo does not play, the Falcons would have to use their third tackle, Mike Johnson is listed as the backup right tackle on the team?s depth chart. He has played in just three NFL games with no starts.
:scared
Clabo is set to matchup against Denver rookie defensive end Derek Wolfe and also be responsible at times for linebacker Von Miller when he rushes off the edge.:scared

Left tackle Sam Baker is set to matchup against Denver defensive end Elvis Dumervil.

?These two guys (Miller and Dumervil) are really good edge rushers,? Falcons coach Mike Smith said.. ?Between the two of them, they had 21 sacks last year, so they can bring it. They put a lot of pressure with their four man rush because they have two very good edge rushers.?

Wide receiver Roddy White (groin) and linebacker Robert James (knee) fully participated in practice and were listed as probable for the game.

For the Broncos, guard Chris Kuper (forearm) did not practice and was declared out for the game. Cornerback Chris Harris (ankle) and guard Phillip Blake (thumb) were listed as questionable. Guard Manny Ramirez (elbow) and wide receiver Demaryius Thomas (shoulder) were listed as probable.

FRIDAY?S INJURY REPORT

FLOWERY BRANCH ? Falcons starting right tackle Tyson Clabo (hip) was added to the injury report on Friday.

Clabo, Pro Bowl wide receiver Roddy White (groin), starting weakside linebacker Sean Weatherspon (hamstring) and linebacker Robert James (knee) were limited in practice.

.............................................................

Von Miller may be a beast in Ryans face all night.

Cant overemphasize

Cant overemphasize

How big a loss Grimes is to Falcons D....Opposing QB only completed 47 % of passes aimed at Grimes coverage in 2010 and 2011 combined...now you are down to Dunta Robinson, who really sucks and Asante Samuel who is good in off-coverage, but toatlly lost in a zone most of the time...nobody picks on weaknesses in a secondary like Manning.....Falcons will have to score 30-plus to win this one, you know #18 will find a way to put up 31 or better

Denver 34-24 is looking more and more likely to me.
