Giants WR Plaxico Burress vs. Atlanta CB DeAngelo Hall

Hall is a very talented corner with a lot of confidence (or cockiness) and he can play any type of defensive scheme. Burress has a size advantage and knows how to use his strength and body to shield the ball from a defender. Hall will try to use press coverage techniques at the line of scrimmage and get his hands on Burress to disrupt the timing of his routes, but that's easier said than done. Burress is excellent at pushing off to get separation and in this season he is working hard to get open. It's not easy to take him out of a route.

This matchup should be compelling in the red zone. Hall must staying on the hip of Burress and time his leaps well because Burress is a great "high ball" target in the end zone and does an excellent job of catching the ball away from his body. Hall is an emotional player and if Burress can embarrass or frustrate him early the Falcons could be in trouble. But the real key to this matchup will be Hall's ability to consistently jam Burress at the line of scrimmage.
.............................................................

There is one problem for Hall to jam Burress at the line of scrimmage , and that is that Hall dont like to play the rough stuff game, he is more finesss type of player. Not only that but Hall dont like to tackle that much either. :SIB

The Falcons face a Giants' defensive line this week that is athletic and moves well, but they can be pushed around by the bigger Falcons. But will Atlanta stay with the run? New York DEs Michael Strahan and Osi Umenyiora can be knocked of the ball, which could be great for Norwood, but the Falcons are a disaster at the tackle position right now so they may not be able to take advantage of it.

Shockey will work out of the slot at times, which could force the Falcons to walk a linebacker to the outside, but the majority of the coverage responsibilities will go to safeties Lawyer Milloy and Chris Crocker and neither is a good matchup against Shockey.

3. Will the Giants come with an aggressive blitz package?

With Gandy and starting RT Todd Weiner both out of the lineup Atlanta is in trouble in pass protection. Add to that the fact that Norwood is struggling in blitz-pickup situations, and facing Strahan and Umenyiora could mean trouble. In fact the Giants, can line up four defensive ends at a time when the bring Justin Tuck and Mathias Kiwanuka into the game in passing situations, and that would be a matchup nightmare for a less athletic Falcons offensive line. New York can use a lot of twists and stunts with that four-DE group to take advantage of their superior quickness. Also look for the Giants to continue to attack off the edges. What makes them unique, though, is their ability to send an inside blitzer to draw the offensive guard back to the inside, which would prevent him from coming to the aid of the Atlanta tackles, who are in matchups this week that they cannot win without help.Scouts' Edge

The Giants are finding ways to win games lately while the Falcons are finding ways to lose. Atlanta appears to be overmatched in almost every area in this game and the Giants should be able to control the trenches and dictate the tempo and style of play. And with the Falcons' patchwork offensive line going against the New York pass rush and blitz package things could get ugly for Harrington.

The Giants have too many weapons on both sides of the ball and will wear the Falcons down in the second half.

Harrington vents, then regains perspective
QB lets off steam over being pulled

By STEVE WYCHE
The Associated Press

Published on: 10/15/07

Joey Harrington goes about life trying not to live in the past. Friends, family and sports therapists have worked with him over the past few years to help embrace every moment and not dwell on things he can't change.

He had yet to let anyone know what really went through his mind when, in the guts of last Sunday's 20-13 loss at Tennessee, he was pulled for No. 3 quarterback Byron Leftwich.

"I was angry. I was frustrated. I was, what other words can I use? Any adjectives you've got, I was all of them," Harrington said. "I didn't agree with it. I didn't like it.":SIB

Many of his teammates felt the same way. Several of them expressed surprise with the move and have been vocal in their support of Harrington, who was named the starter for tonight's game against the visiting New York Giants.

"It's not Joey," tailback Warrick Dunn said about the Falcons' offensive problems in their 1-4 start. "I've said that over and over. We have to be better. The offensive line has to be better. The backs have to block and run better. The wide receivers have to run better routes. We all have to be better.

"Is [Harrington] going to play great every game? No. But to me, he's played well above what anyone thought he would because of his history.":142smilie

Landry edges the Bucs' Tanard Jackson as the biggest impact rookie safety. Landry has been very solid for a Redskins defense that ranks third overall in the NFL.
..........................................................

Trading away Matt Schaub and moving up 2 spots did not help the Falcons land Landry.

Instead they take Anderson who you wont even hear his name mentioned Monday night, and he will play the whole game at defensive end.

With the Vick situation, that trade has to go down as one of the blundering stupid moves the Falcons ever did do.

Landy would have solidified the defense and made them the Falcons a much better team almost immediately.

I'll be at the game hoping you are wrong. We need a win in the worst way. Good luck to all your other picks though.
