Most sportsbooks online have a link that shows you what is bet on each side at their site. They don't care if you know.

For the most part, most books do like to have a balance of money on each side (especially smaller, local ones). Most books I have dealt with are not gamblers. They just want the juice. Certainly, some books take a stand on a game. Larger ones can afford to take the hit if they lose the game while a smaller outfit may not be able to a heavy hit on a particular game so they play with the number to get action on other side and then maybe lay some off at tip off.

% on a particular side can be misleading. You could have 10 people playing SU for 110 each and one guy on Pitt for 10,000. Public is on SU but the Pitt money will move the line.

Reading the line is an art form. I do not admit to be good at it. But I do know that it not always what it seems.

Yo Ham-

Soul is a solid capper around here. Going in and talking SHAT is not how we roll around here at Madjacks. Add something of value or nothing at all. I don't post much because there are much better cappers than I in here. You might want to follow suit.

They don't care if you know.

I'm sorry. I don't buy this. This is just bad business and I question whether any book would publish statistics like that that aren't faked. This isn't like ATS standings that are facts that could be found anyway...this is knowledge they control and in this game I don't see them giving anyone any edge, however small or however potentially meaningless it is. If they are, wow - If I worked for them I'd be screwing those numbers all over the place.

edit: DOes pinny provide this info? I have a feeling the more respectable quality books, *don't*...hint hint. VIP doesn't.

You are right that the line comes into play about 15% of the time in the NFL.I'm sure its different in basketball.

Why would an online service care if you know the trends? They make their $$ on the juice.

Here's the SB link - I'm not sure if it will get zapped in the post, you can find it on the site, right hand side under promos, it says "live betting trends."

That is a good point about the dollars vs. number of players. You could have 100 people at $100 on one side and 2 people at 5 dimes each on the other and it would show 50-50.

Guys, I know many great cappers who bet against public teams where the line moves the opposite way. Its sharp betting. Period.

The winning % on it doesnt matter. You keep betting teams that are public favorites, when the line is moving inexplicably the other way, you WILL get burned.

If you think you have a better chance picking winners yourself than betting line moves, go right ahead. But dont come into someone's thread and criticize. If you like Pitt, post it somewhere else. If you are right, make another post about it after the game and congratulate yourself.

I'm actually on cuse myself tonight but not for the same reason. My book actually has it at 5, and I like the extra point for Cuse. Pitt wins but wont cover IMO

Back to the game, Pitt 1st half might be a solid play, as syracuse has been crushed early the last couple of times out v. UConn and NOva.

If, as is said, trends can help place winning bets......

And...as I said, why would they place it in the first place. Thats info they have that you don't. The want their advantage.

Again...give me a reason why the WOULD post accurate info. $$ is a reason why they wouldn't. Also, info on respectable books giving that info would be nice.

there are people who bet just based on trends. Believe it or not, I know some small timers who look at public bets instead of doin their own homework. THATS why its advantageous for the books to post it.
