miserable 2-4-1 yesterday as everything that could go wrong did. jim thome did his best impersonation of bill bucknor and let a game-ending ground ball go between his legs that allowed the cle/det game to push out. cubs and brewers score more runs in the 8th and 9th innings than they had in the previous 20 innings to tie up 4-4 and blow the under. tex/det and cws/ana strand about 30 or so baserunners between them, leaving those over plays in the lurch. hedge play on the big dog pirates only thing that saved the day. such is life in sports betting. overall record 17-13 (dropping the pushes from running record). on to tonight:

tor/nyy over 9: teams are 13-6-1 to the over last 20 mtgs. can't believe lyon will be able to do much to hold the yankees down, hasn't done much in a couple of relief appearances with them. thus far this year he's posted a 6.20 era, allowing opposing batters a .287 b/a, .539 slg/a. more ominously, he's allowed 9 hr's in 45 innings. for some reaon hernandez struggles with the jays, 3-5 lifetime with a 4.74 era, 0-4, 6.40 era in his last four starts vs toronto. jays hitting pretty well of late, yankees always dangerous in the bronx zoo.

kc/ana over 9-. it's got to be a recipe for an over putting a hack like stein up against a team as hot as the angels on the road. this year has been fairly typical of his career - thus far 8.41 era over 20.1 innings, allowing a stunning 19.5 baserunners every 9 innings, opponents hitting .322, slg .506. those stats are usually a one-way ticket to the showers, except pena has no starter for tomorrow because of the weekend doubleheader and has indicatd he will probably use bullpen pitchers for tomorrow, which in turn kind of leaves stein hanging out to dry should he get in early trouble. appier a decent pitcher but for some reason hasn't fared too well against his old team, 6.08 era over 13.1 innings. angel bats couldn't be much hotter, averaging over 7 rpg over the last two dozen or so games.

fwiw, going to play a couple of dogs tonight (won't count in the totals recordkeeping) with cws +140 and detroit +150. ritchie is decent and lowe has been pitching over his head. cle bats capable of snoozing on the road and colon due for a lapse.

g/l to all tonight.

well, just caught the pitching change to hitchcock for the yankees and line change to 9-. gonna let the play ride as i see the change as a trade down for the yankees and toronto is hitting lefties well of late. besides, i wanted to watch the game. . . just kidding.
