As is protocol this time of year, the Braves are taking control of the NL
East, opening up a 4.5-game cushion after taking 2 of 3 from both
the Brew Crew and the Cubs on their latest road trip. Jorge Sosa
(10-3, +$820) has been very strong despite being shuffled between
the bullpen and the rotation and has an ERA at or below 3.00 in every
month. Another encouraging sign is Sosa's decline in walks issued
in the second half this season and he has allowed just 7 free passes
in August. If his control is there, Sosa has the stuff to shut down an
offense the caliber of Washington's, which was shut out the last two
nights at St. Louis. Patterson has put together a great individual
season, but his inability to get run support (4-6, -$160 on the road)
makes him a good go-against that keeps Atlanta at a desireable price.
