This game is more of a play based more on circumstances than on stats. Washington after the blowout against Florida has forgotton how to score goals whereas their defence has started to collapse again.
If Jagr is out the main threat of the offence is taken out as Jagr even though he may not be scoring does a lot of small things like assists and breaking down the defence.
Boston is not a great defensive club. But with Thornton back they wanna get back on track.
The numbers for last 5 games are not pretty by any standard.
In last 5 games Caps are averaging 4 goals per game
In last 4 games Boston is giving up 2.4 goals per game
Looking closely in the last 3 games Caps have managed to score
2, 1 and 1 goals respectively.
In last 5 games on the road they have scored more than 2 goals twice .. once against the dreaded Carolina defence and once against Islanders.
Boston in its last 3 games @ home .. Shields has started in all of them have NOT surrendered more than 2 goals in any of them.

1, 1, 2, 3, 8 and 1 goals in 6 games.
The main offense runs thru Bondra and Jagr. If Jagr is out great for the Under. Another factor here is the fatigue. Caps looked very tired in the third period against Ottowa.
Shields is the probable starter but the boston coach is horrible when deciding goaltenders .. last min decisions most of the time.
