Tough weekend. . . lost a little overall which is fine. I think we can make some back tonight:

St. John's pk over UConn. . . first off, this is a system play as St. John's began as a one point favorite over a ranked dog. Recent matchups of these teams show that the home team has won the last six and St. John's has covered the last six. A little concerned that St. John's has lost at home to the likes of Villanova and Manhattan and has really looked better on the road than at home. But UConn hasn't exactly torn it up on the road either losing 3 out of 4. Should be a tough game and not sure just how big I will play this yet but feel the home team takes this one.

BTW, Tuesdays games look very promising for system plays. Especially one in particular ;)

Texas +whatever over Kansas. . . normally I would be all over the other side, but the Horns cruised to victory on Saturday while Kansas barely crossed the finish line against Arizona. Texas has a definite depth advantage over the Jayhawks and should be able to wear this team down in a similar fashion. With one day to prepare for this game, I think the Horns will be ready and the Hawks may be a little flat. Will consider the ML as well, but no question that the points will be valuable in this one.

Looking at the rest still including Manhattan and Illinois Chicago.

Hey Nickel, I know you keep up with the unranked fav at home over a ranked dog system, what's the record on these plays this year? I know it's done pretty well as usual, I was just wondering what the record was in these games. Thanks

Lonewolf,

That's a great question. . . I apologize for not having the answer. . . I probably should keep that record around given the fact that I've used it so many times. I can tell you that it has done quite well this year (given my bankroll for one) from what I can remember but is coming off a loss on Sunday. I like my chances with this system coming off a loss ;)

Especially when everywhere I look, UConn is the public play and cappers are pounding it! I think they are playing them for the wrong reasons and underestimating the homecourt factor. . . especially when these teams play.

I tend to agree, and I've used this system knowingly and unknowingly ever since I can remember. These games also tend to fall on a big ESPN telecast where the public eye seems to always be wrong, they just can't understand how a ranked team can be dogs to these unranked home teams. I LOVE it!!! Anyways maybe somebody has been keeping track of this system, just for the sake of knowing. Thanks. Oh, and as far as public perception goes, I like the looks of that Manhattan game tomorrow, I haven't put any time into this game, but you gotta think a regular Joe will sit back and say, " What the hell, S. Hall only favored by 4 or 5, damn that's easy, who in the hell is Manhattan?????" You gotta love these!!;) ;)

I'm not sure about where St. John's plays their home games but, aren't they playing at Madison Square Garden tonight. I would think that this would be more of neutral site.

I kinda like UCONN.

Head -- St Johns plays a number of games every year at MSG and has an outstanding record in games there. They get a better turnout for their games at the Garden than at their true home court. UConn will also get some fans here tonite too.

Dave Cokin was talking about that same angle (unranked favorite over ranked dog) the other day on Proline radio and said it was around 75% this season.

nickel, let me begin by stating my appreciation of your posts/picks/analysis on a daily basis...
ok, now the kisses & hugs are dispensed with & i disagree on the uconn/johnnie game as i don't think it will even be close...coaching will be in effect tonight & uconn hc is 1 of the best in the biz...the msg mystique is passe' (wow, the knicks play here!) & is not the johnnies' true homecourt...the talent discrepancy is overwheming & i think the huskies coast...
also, don't think for a minute that seton hall doesn't know what manhattan is capable of doing, see this as a close game & staying away, rooting for the jaspers...gl, caper
