I am trying to find a post a while ago on Money management. I know the general rule is never bet more than 5% of your bankroll on one game.

This is what I am looking at for the upcoming football season.
Bankroll: $8000
I rank my games with 2-5 units.
Am I safe if I calculate my unit by taking the max bet of my bankroll- $400 and divide that by my max unit bet of 5 giving me a unit= $80.

Comments Appreciated

Thanks

No your not safe unless you keep your hands above the covers that way you won't be tempted
to play with your weiner.

Listen just forget about money management, its a myth.

There is this guy that may come in here named edludes. He will tell you that money management
is a lot of a waste of time. Best advice he ever gave to me.

There are three aspects to sportsbetting:

1. Money Management
2. Handicapping
3. Betting Strategies

I could write volumes on each one.

If you are new to the world of sportsbetting, my advice would be conservative wagering and minimal exposure of your bankroll.

It is extremely difficult to win in this racket.

Be very careful.

Good luck.

Herc,

If you listen to Beantownjim you will end up in the poorhouse in no time flat.

One good way is like I told you....conservative wagering and minimal exposure of your bankroll.

I repeat....

conservative wagering and minimal exposure of your bankroll.

You should concern yourself more with learning to handicap one particular sport than making a profit.

You have much to learn...

and nobody to teach you.

Good money management if you are playing foots = waiting until MJs sponsors get their FB contests going before you deposit.

Forget the unit b.s. unless you are a tout. All of your plays should be for the same amount. As your bankroll increases your play size increases and as your bankroll decreases your play size decreases. Keep your plays to 2% max of bankroll.

Don't want to have more than 20% of the bankroll out at any one time. 5 unit plays shouldn't be a regular occurence.

Don't worry about Scott and beantown. They're just here for the entertainment

I agree with BEANTOWNJIM........ im not a person who likes to bet small amounts of money on games its not worth it to me atleast. as a matter of fact i don't even watch a game if i don't have money on it lol (its true) yea i lose big when i lose but its cool doesnt hurt to have money to come right back the next day and win it back and some either :) to each its own i guess GL.

Best advice here is from Buddy!!!

Protect your bankroll and value it like its your livlehood. Money management is not only important to long term success at this business........It is IMHO the MOST important factor!!!!
Like Buddy I could expound for a great length of time on this subject......but I'll spare you...however, there are 2 basic truths that allowed me to survive and prosper for 35 years at this game.

1. No game is 100% more likely to cover than another so I rarely increase by a factor of 2 and never a factor of 3 or more. I have but only on very rare occasions (taking a big shot off winnings)
I'll increase my constant bet by 25% and stay constant if my cumulative selections reach a given % below 50%.........then when I get back to 50% I have a greater # of winners at 125% than losers at 125%.Tweak that and get ready to GRIND IT OUT!
If I cannot pick 50% I do not go past a given loss number for the season......no ifs ands or buts......thats it for the year so you know I'm conservative.
2. Not too many play like this but........after or in the middle of a HOT run I decrease by 10 to 25% expecting to come back down to 50 ish % and I usually do but if I continue to Win...great. I take more off.........Maybe send it in one time....depends........When I'm losing I increase expecting to come back toward 50% so I want my increasing # of Ws to be at say 125% of the original constant. Lose the predetermined roll.......... DONE! Grind winnings as high as possible! I only play football and college hoops. Tried others and much stuff on paper and I know my limits!
