i am very interested for some reason to read that thread where someone was trashing the A's and how the book meant nothing because the A's were just pitching and billy beane has no clue?

blanton, swisher et al were all over that book

I didn't read the book......but if I remember correctly, I think he ripped Kenny Williams by name, as an example of one of the GM's he took to the shed with his 'superior' intellect. I'm not defending Kenny Williams and I am well aware the White Sox haven't done anything yet, but I believe the phrase "he who laughs last, laughs best" applies here. Oakland hasn't won the WS in Beane's term.

He probably does not want to say i told you so,more then anything,he probably wants to say don`t count a team out of it 60 games into the season that its a 162 game grind and that anything can happen in a long drawn out season.
You contradicted yourself slightly in your quote.
You open up by saying what`s so great about the A`s? You answer your question by saying they have played decent lately.
They sure have 25-8 in their last 33 and pitching is the key (team era 3.87).
What is a deserving playoff team?
I believe they are a better team then the twins and the orioles.
And for the yankees,well they have issues for sure.
And for being a longshot to make the playoffs,i don`t think so at all.There odds are shortening up with every win.
Twins and orioles both lose,they can pick up ground again in the wild card standings with a win.

Exactly soultrain, a team has a slow start and everyone is all over them. Its a long season and for people to sound off on them at that point wast brutal.

They have done what they always have, got hot when they need to and proved that they are not just mulder hudson zito, they are a fantastically run team with guts out the ying yang,.

They definitely can not have a cold spell, but it is going to be fun to watch none the less.
