Dropped a tough one last week as the Titans lost their grip on Indianapolis in the second half, squandering a 7-point halftime lead to fall, 31-17.

A pair of picks this week as Monkey tries to climb back into the plus side of the ledger.

Season Stats:
NFL: 1 - 1 .500 (-1.4 unit)

Game 1: Pittsburgh at Miami
Time: Sunday (maybe Saturday), 1:00 EDT
Pick: MIAMI -1 (3 units)

This one features a battle of the Pittsburgh receivers against the Miami secondary. I think it's doubtful that Plaxico Burress will be able to beat the Dolphins deep. The Miami defense has given up one touchdown in 2 games. Brian St. Pierre may see game time if the Dolphins can get to Roethlisberger.

It seems the Steelers have a locker room controversy, also. Although he's a Pro Bowl guard, Alan Faneca is not used to the crowd he saw around his locker yesterday. It included an ESPN crew specifically to flush out the reason behind his comment Monday when he made comments about Roethlisberger. He was asked if it was exciting to see a rookie play QB. "Exciting? No, it's not exciting. Do you want to go to work with some little kid who's just out of college?"

I smell Miami's first win.

Game 2: San Francisco at Seattle
Time: Sunday, 1:00 PDT
Pick: San Francisco +10-1/2 (4 units)

The 49ers stay on the road, but won't have to travel cross country as they make a short trip to Seattle for a key NFC West showdown against the Seattle Seahawks.

Last season, a missed extra point was the difference as Seattle escaped with a 20-19 victory.

San Francisco QB Ken Dorsey will have to step up as Seattle will bring the blitz.

The Seahawks struggled offensively last week. They managed just 182 total yards and 9 first downs.

San Francisco has dropped its 2 games by a combined 5 points.

The pressure will be on 2003 first round pick LT Kwame Harris to hold off Grant Wistrom, who had 7 tackles and 2 sacks last week.

San Francisco isn't as bad as the 0-2 record suggests. It's not a plethora of talent that makes the 49ers better, but character, and you'll find that out on Sunday. If the SF defense brings their A-game, it will be a tougher battle than everyone anticipates.

Offensively, I don't thnk SF will be able to come out and run the ball on Seattle because the Seahawks will probably load up in the box against the run. So, Dorsey will have to play a near perfect game.

Defensively, SF has got to stop the run, and they have to press the Seahawk receivers.

Ten and a half points is too many for Seattle to lay this week.

Aaaaaaah!!! :scared

A pair of defeats on Sunday drops Monkey into an early-season NFL tailspin.

San Francisco was never in that game against Seattle. The entire country will have a chance to see just how bad the Niners are this year next Sunday night when they are the ESPN prime time feature game (vs. the Rams).

Miami couldn't swim in the waters that were Pro Player stadium against the Steelers. The Dolphins have a lot of problems on offense, also.

The sad numbers:

NFL: 1 - 3 .250 (-9.1 units)
